With all due respect to Elvis, Chuck, Fats, Little Richard, Dion, etc., I’d say the genuine classic period of rock was from when the Beatles matured in ‘66 thru ‘74, before disco hit. Interestingly, this eight year period coincides w/ the heavy conflict of Viet Nam, excitement in the space program, major civil rights protests, and some quite excellent hallucinogenic substance use.

Interesting understated performance of singing/drumming. Larry Lee has calm, low pressure style without wildly flailing away on the drum kit or excessive showmanship. Singing style is equally low key without the screaming or the exaggerated vocal nuances of other rock groups. In his high-ish tenor range he appears quite comfortable. This is not to say the tune is boring, on the contrary he gives a soulful delivery with hints of a female voice inflection that is most interesting, and I would venture that many music fans are that more intrigued who thought the lead singer was a female. All in all, a great piece for a band that only had a few hits.Robertat 67.

As I recall it was great run to the end of the decade from there - any of the noms for Grammy SOTY and ROTY could have easily won, it was a tight n classy field right through. A very competitive time to be in the business but the consumers were the winners - folks were buying lots of albums, spoiled for choice with the ongoing quality.

The band I was with had a nice arrangement of "Heaven." I sang lead and we sweetened up the ending slightly. The crowds loved it, even the cowboys (Western Colorado). We'd save that & things like Jumping Jack Flash for the 4th set.

There are songs that define their own decade as no other songs do. The 80s were DEFINED by "Call Me" by Blondie. It is unique. The 70s were DEFINED by "Jackie Blue" There's no other song in mood, composition, or effect like it. MASTERPIECE!
