Hi everyone,
I’m still trying to get back into a routine after my big trip up to the Mayo Clinic. It’s interesting how an interruption of your routine can cascade into days of readjustment. I slept in late, then had a day of minor errands and spending time with my family. It wasn’t until none at night that I got to spend any serious time walking and getting my steps in. I’ve got them for the day, but I had to get most of them in one long burst. Luckily, the temperature tonight was cool, but not cold enough to be an issue. I started with my jacket on, but after the first hour I was too hot and did the last half hour without it. I’ll give you a final count on that tomorrow, but I’m happy to have made my numbers.
Speaking of numbers and missing my routine, I forgot to do a weigh in or my fasting blood sugar this morning. I went ahead and did a glucose check after my hour and a half of walking though and it was 117. I’ll wait until tomorrow for a morning weigh in. Yesterday’s active calories were 1054, and I took 13,120 steps. Both solid numbers I can’t complain about. Even yesterday though, I was getting a lot of my calories late. I really hope I can get off to a better start tomorrow.
My average resting heart rate is down to 61, while my walking average crept up to 99 as I started to get more outdoor walking in. My glories consumed were 2111.
I went over a lot of my adventures with the Mayo Clinic yesterday, but I did want to give an update on the hunt for Ozempic. My doctor prescribed me a 1 milligram daily dose back on January 3rd, but I haven’t been able to get it. The local Walgreens vacillated back and forth between saying they were out of stock and saying they needed a pre-authorization. After over a month of this, I transferred the prescription uo to the Mayo, since I was going to be up there anyway, and bingo, problem solved. They got the authorization within a few hours and my prescription was ready a day before I was ready to go up there. Not only did they have it, but when they found out I was at the other clinic location (there’s a clinic in Phoenix and a clinic in Scottsdale) they transferred the prescription over so I didn’t even have to go to the other location. I can’t speak highly enough about the Mayo. They are fantastic, and I can finally start my full dosage of the medication after using a half dose based on the Doctor’s samples for the past month and a half.
I was also officially accepted into the Virta program today. They’ll be sending me my supplies in a week or so, but they gave me a bunch of videos to watch about doing keto and I’d be lying if I said it looks like a good time. It is going to be an adjustment. Still, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and see what progress I can make with them before I pass judgement. They also let me know not to attempt it on my own before the official start, which is just fine by me. I’ll probably see what carbs I can eat this week, knowing they will soon be forbidden. Nothing stupid like cake and cookies, but you can be sure I’ll be enjoying a lot of fruits this week along with some good bread. I might go and get my last Eegee’s Grinder for the duration.
That’s it for tonight. I’m already past midnight. I’ll leave you with my Terry Pratchett quote of the day. This one is from Monstrous regiment.
“There have been better attempts at marching, and they have been made by penguins.”
