Sometimes I really miss the 1960's to go back and re-live them. But then I remember the draft (my lottery number was 10), Vietnam, street protests, assassinations, racism, and other distractions from the great art of the era. So I guess its right for time to never stop.

So he got no credit? John ripped him off? Is that the point here?

John Phillips later threatened Phil's life with a knife after the success of California Dreamin'. He told Phil that he no longer wanted him to work with him on musical projects. So much for gratitude.....

@@helenarowe Probably coked up at the time. Both great talents, but apparently session musicians are needed to make recordings more perfect.

John wrote the song, but Phil put some touches on it to make it better. Session musicians are used to make things more professional on the recording.

Wow ! Phil should have gotten co writing credit, and a share of the royalties ! At least now couldn’t Michelle Phillips officially include him in the songwriting credits ??

@@lizzabbott Phil helped with the musical arrangement of California Dreamin', not with the lyrics which were written by John & Michelle Phillips. Also, in 1967 P.F. Sloan had all his royalties taken from him by Dunhill Records. He was chased out of Hollywood by the executives there, mainly Jay Lasker & Lou Adler. The lives of his immediate family were also threatened if he did not "disappear"; so he fled to NYC. Phil wrote a great autobiography a year before he died entitled "What Is Exactly The Matter With Me?" which describes all this and much more as he was so involved with the LA music scene during the 1960's.

I guess they all steal or "borrow" from each other.
