The slab of wood was it cut right away meaning still get plenty water inside or was it dried out for a few weeks even months? And once the shape of the board is pau did you rehydrate the wood if it was dried out?

The underside was kukui nut oil, the top side where Pa'i ai is pounded was left raw. But since, lightly rub down with Butchers block oil. This is safe for food. Use sparingly though. Good idea to light coat while is storage...
