Ingredients:
Moong dal (Cheruparippu) - 1 cup + 3 tbsp
Milk - 3 cups
Jaggery - 450g
Ghee
Coconut bits
Raisins
Cardamom powder
Steps:
Wash and drain the moong dal.
Heat a pressure cooker and add moong dal.
Add 1½ tbsp ghee and roast till golden.
Reduce the flame and add 2½ cups water.
Pressure cook for 1 whistle on high flame and for another 5 minutes on low flame.
Melt jaggery in 1½ cups water.
Bring 3 cups of milk to boil and reduce the flame to lowest.
Add jaggery syrup to cooked moong dal and cook till it becomes dry.
Add a pinch of salt.
You may also add dry ginger powder or cumin powder.
Add boiled milk.
When it starts to boil, switch off.
Heat ghee in a pan and roast coconut bits till golden.
Add raisins and switch off.
Add this to payasam.
Leave it covered for 10-15 minutes.
Enjoy the moong dal payasam.
