La joven violinista alemana Anna Gertsel interpreta "Aires gitanos" de Pablo de Sarasate en el concierto conmemorativo del ex director de WDR Fritz Pleitgen con las fuerzas combinadas de la Nueva Orquesta Filarmónica de Colonia y la NRW Landespolizeiorchester bajo la dirección de Volker Hartung.
The work is based on Romanian and Hungarian folk themes and in the last section the rhythms are those of the csárdás. This section reuses a theme from Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 13, composed in 1847.
It is one of Sarasate's most popular works and a favorite piece among violin virtuosos. It has been recorded by a large number of violinists since Sarasate's own recording in 1904.
