It's definitely worth loading up an emulator and playing some of the classics for TurboGraphx16 and PC Engine. It was a master at shoot em ups, but there's other types of games that were exclusive to the console that are definitely worth playing. I don't think the console was even sold in my country, I've never heard of it before KZitem, but I've played a lot of the games for it now. They're releasing the TurboGraphx16 Mini console soon too if you wanna go that route. They're releasing the mini console in my country even though they didn't ever release the original, it's weird

Holy cow, I was *just* talking about this game the other day. It's a fantastic game that's overlooked a lot, unfortunately. Good choice at playing the TG16 version. The Famicom version is pretty poor and it's no surprise it wasn't brought over to the US (well that and the weird licensing stuff going on with Namco and Tengen.) By the way, Professor Pac was I believe the straw that broke the camel's back with the Namco Midway deal. Either that or the pinball machines.
@ThunderFist1978
5 жыл бұрын
battra92 According to Wikipedia’s timeline, Jr. Pac-Man is the last game listed before this one. Midway got to release Pac-Land, but after that they went to Atari Games for U.S. releases. By the way, Pac-Man wasn’t the only license Midway abused. They also made Gorf in 1981, which included a level with characters from Galaxian, with the level being called Galaxians. That level was removed from every port of Gorf that was released for consoles. Curiously, Astro Battles, which included characters from Space Invaders, which acted exactly how they did in Space Invaders, was not omitted from any home ports. And then there’s the inclusion of Pac-Man in Kick, which later became Kick Man. Do you see that as an abuse of the Pac-Man license as well?

this was the only game at the chinese grocery store we went to every week. all the adults would hog the machine and swear in chinese at machine. so i had to push my way through a bunch of trousers, just to get close enough to see someone play. one day, we got to he store super early and no one was playing. i looked for a quarter in my coin purse and played the game for the very first time. i died in less than a minute. I stood there the rest of time to watch others play from the front row. years later they had a turbografx 16 on display at radio shack with pac land. I waited for my turn to play. when i got my chance at the controller, there were a lot of kids staring at me. I got nervous and ran away. anyways, i really like your shirt.

The arcade cabinet for this game was pretty popular in my local arcades circa early 90s. A couple of interesting things I remember about it are that usually only girls would play it and you had to continuously smack the lever left or right in order to run. Same weird momentum when jumping as the home version. Still, I always thought it was a good game for the era.

I remember the first time I played this game, in a laundromat in the next town over. We had a Professor Pac-Man here before that at the arcade at the local mall, and I understand that nearly all the Professor Pacs were converted to Pac-Land upon being shipped back to Midway. Who knows? Maybe the first Pac-Land I played all those years ago started its life as the Professor Pac-Man I played years before that. I have always liked this game, especially the fact that it used the theme song from the cartoon, and I can remember playing this game and calling out, “Pac-Man!” in time with the music, using the low voice from the original cartoon theme. By the way, in the U.S. release, Chomp Chomp and Sourpuss, the dog and cat from the cartoon, are also waiting along with Baby Pac and Pepper (Ms. Pac-Man) when he reaches home at the end of the level. The pets are not present in the Japanese version.

In the usa arcade version of pack land the main character dose not just have a smaller nose,the game also runs faster than the Japanese version which incidentally makes it the harder version,but also the best version IMO, the tg16 version of pack land is the best home port of the game kudos for picking that version. you should try it in mame the differences between the versions are actually quite interesting.
