Pac-Man on Commodore PET using my prototype joystick and sound adapter. Game is Pac-Man 2 by Henrik Wening.
There is no single standard way of connecting a joystick to the PET. Few games support a joystick in the first place, and when they do, each game author seems to have their own method. My prototype board has jumpers to change the wiring configuration as needed; a cleaner approach would be to use switches or a microcontroller to select the configuration.
Here are a few joystick configurations I've found that work:
Galaga, Pac-Man 2
Left: [F], Right: [H], Fire: [C], Gnd: [A]
Ultra Invaders (hacked version of Space Invaders by Mr NOP)
Left: [C], Right: [D], Fire: [J], Gnd: [A]
Sound hookup:
CB2 [M] with 5k resistor, Gnd [N]
