In 1994 I rode in the cab of a 142 (Pacer) two car train from Middlesborough to Grosmont where I was to work on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (see video of cab ride on USA S160). Great views of the North Yorkshire moors and an interesting chat about the single line operations and about the local area and people.
The Pacer is a railcar designed to use standard bus parts to keep costs low. It runs on four wheels and hence rocks and rolls though even at 45 mph the ride was surprisingly smooth.
