Thank you for giving Tatum his credit on defense. I’m a huge fan of his and you’re absolutely right… offensively some times watching him I want to pull my hair out. I don’t understand why it’s so easy to get him to settle when he is such a big, strong, quick, athletic player with amazing finishing ability but haters bash on him for that and pretend like that’s the end all be all while completely disregarding him on the defensive end. I’ve been really happy with Tatum over these last few games specifically with his decision making in crunch time. You touched on it a couple days ago in your “why Tatum is the perfect fit for Boston” video to close out the Cavs and again tonight when he identified the mismatch he had in OT following the Nesmith ejection
@DanthonPlays
4 ай бұрын
I disagree, and don't know how many people can't notice it. It's not true in the sligthest that Tatum is quick. He doesn't have a quick first-step and relies on his strenght, acrobatic post moves and space to get past defenders. That's one of the main reasons the Celtics are so much better when the floor is open, with a shooting center. Both Jays are very good finishers at the rim but have a hard time infiltrating, with Brown being slightly better since he improved his handles, especially with his left hand. Tatum has improved in another aspects like rebounding and playmaking, and still is the best player, but he is not settling for jumpers, he simply don't go for the rim often because he has a slow first step and can't get past quick perimeter defenders. PS: (I'm not saying Jayson Tatum is slow, he is a fast player, he is slow to accelerate)

@nickgilday8946
4 ай бұрын
As an avid Joe supporter it hurts me to say this but I actually think these stretches have more to do with his substitution patterns being predictable more than anything else. Whenever tatum was out the pacers seemed to have multiple top-line players and scorers in, and they knew when it was coming so they could sub accordingly… obviously tstum is Celtics best player and him being out is gonna hurt. But it’s compounded when he’s out along with Derrick and the other team has a top-heavy lineup out there…I know Joe likes the substitution routine but he’s gonna have to get that sorted

@@nickgilday8946 I think he’s been better with it, notably it was similar with the last two series as well, the first series was a sub pattern similar to the regular season (albeit with less kornet and hauser minutes) until he switched midway through and started subbing Tatum and Brown out later in the first, Tatum with like 3 minutes left and Brown with about a minute left. I think he’ll do the same after game 2, probably run more lineups of Jaylen with Jrue and DWhite until KP gets back as well since this team is better offensively than the other two
@nickgilday8946
4 ай бұрын
@@aidenroderick8675 agreed he’s been better… but it was clear tonight Carlisle had it made and also… you already know the offense is gonna take a hit without your best scorer. You’re already missing jaylen favorite partner in crime in KP. At least work it out so you got brown Derrick and jrue so there’s proper floor spacing etc. felt like it ese often just brown + one guy with hauser kornet and Pritchard and that’s not a recipe for success. That’s all on first watch so maybe I’m wrong there just seemed like those rotations could be smarter and less predictable. I’m sure he’ll adjust.

So freaking true.! The moment Tatum was subbed out in the 3rd with that lead and while he was on a bit of a heater ( I think he had 10 in the qtr) I started to get worried and angry and nervous. I totally agree. I understand the they have to get Tatum rest, but I personally think they should never rest him unless the rest of the starters are on the floor. The team takes a little dip even when Tatum is still on the floor if PP and Kornet and Hauser are in. But when it’s only JB and Jrue and those 3 bench guys? It’s just asking to blow a lead or at least let a run happen. The main adjustment id make at this point is to find a way to use TV timeouts and timeouts and end of qtrs as the way to get Tatum the couple 3-5 minute tests he needs to be able to keep enough energy. But I definitely think they’ll likely wait to see if the series gets really dangerous or desperate before they start playing him 45 real minutes per game and find his rest in the margins

The game was tied with 5:00 left, the Pacers got a lead up to 5 with 1:56 left, and had the 117--114 lead with 0:46 left. I doubt I've heard a game that close be called a "choke" before. I understand a few mistakes prevented a bigger Pacers lead and allowed the Celtics to tie, But a choke? The Pacers played well enough to barely win, but the Celtics tied the game.

@@UnconventionalReasoning What are you talking about man?? Since they’ve started keeping track of these things in the mid 90s no team has lost with the ball and a 3 point lead with 10 seconds on the clock. They’re a young team who choked at the end, they’ll learn from it. Every analyst in every show is saying the same thing including the Pacers coach and players. You’re the one that needs to chill instead of banging your head against a wall trying to avoid the simple truth of what happened.

@@mickydem5920 The Celtics forced the turnover and made the game-tying sot. Everyone has to say that the Pacers lost because they've been saying for years that the Celtics fail in clutch time. So it can't be that the Celtics actually succeeded in clutch time. Every analyst in every show can all be wrong. It happens really easily when everyone starts listening to each other. Like wanting Siakam to go to the inbound passer, they can only show the line after White is removed from the image. Otherwise Siakam would be going right at White, making the inbounds pass even harder. Everyone, including Halliburton, says that the errors were on him because they were "unforced". That is the binary thinking of forced vs unforced errors, leaving out the third possibility of "influenced" errors.

Anybody can point to a few stops and say, "Look everybody! Great defense!" Minnesota is the only GREAT defensive team remaining. No other team could hv done to Denver what they did, especially in Gm.#2 and 2nd half of Gm.#7! Every other team can play GOOD defense for stretches, but not the suffocating D Minnesota can bring.
