A couple questions: 1. Do you have 3 copies of the same credit card for each of your 3 wallets? Or a different credit card in each wallet (if a different one - how do you make sure you have the right one for the situation? Been looking into the Chase Trifecta - seems like you'd need to have a couple on you depending on what you're buying to maximize points). 2. Do you carry a reusable water bottle? (Especially one with a filter like you had in the van - seems like a filter would be useful in a lot of countries). The water bottle pocket on your bag looked pretty small. 3. Given your expensive camera gear and laptop, do you carry a portable surge protector? If not, have you ever had a problem? 4. Any reason for packing the shorts inside-out? 5. Have you considered a smaller/more lightweight rain coat instead? I think the rain coats made for ultralight thru-hiking backpacking can compress down smaller than yours appeared to, but still have more features than a poncho would. Popular ones seem to be: Enlightened Equipment Visp, Z-Packs Vertice, Montbell Versalite, and Outdoor Research Helium II.

Different cards. I usually carry two chase cards in my main wallet. So I have a total of 4 cards. The water pocket holds a normal size water bottle. I dont normally carry one though. I dont have a surge protector but have apple care if something happens. Ive never had an issue. ive always turned my clothes inside out when packing..i guess to keep them clean if something spills. I dont wear the raincoat enough to justify the cost. I might ditch it at some point. I rarely use it.

My wife and I began packing like this for 20+ years ago after watching a Rick Steves dvd - works well for us during month-long trips. As an “aside” we down-sized from a 40’ motor coach to a Suburban three years ago and are constantly amazed how we continue to simplify and minimize. We enjoyed your video and expect more people will embrace your suggestions. Thanks!

The three ID / money method seems really smart. I like that bag can be accessed as a backpack or like a suitcase. If going somewhere cooler you could easily swap some things out for warmer layers. And women could swap out and add in a skirt or dress, bras, and jewelry to spice it up! I like to pack a light scarf, again for pizzazz, but also for warmth on the plane. And a sun hat!

Good video and packing job. We’ve been carry on only for years and won’t ever go back. We aren’t quite down to your size as we do travel with a smaller personal item, and we do have liquids. I think the biggest hurdle for people is to realize what you really need to take and to not pack for every single scenario. Also the big hack is plan to wash clothes. I think regular thinking is “I’m gone for 14 days, I need 14 shirts, underwear, etc.” instead of saying “in 14 days I’ll wash my clothes twice.” What I appreciate most about your video is you aren’t a small guy. Too often these sorts of videos are from guys who wear medium. I’m more in the xl category and one of their shirts is 3/4 of mine. You can fit a lot more in when you’re small! Bags with one large area are best as you can utilise all the space. Look at gym bags as travel bags. I have a UA bag that has backpack straps. It has a large main compartment, a couple of small mesh pockets inside, a couple of outside pockets and a shoe pocket. I use the shoe pocket to hold my liquids as they are easy to access for security and it keeps them away from clothes in case something leaks. This bag rarely gets a look by the gate agents. I also have an older gym bag which looks small but has a ton of space. That’s the key, having something which doesn’t look oversize and overweight.

Love the multiple wallet method and well executed. I usually just have two and only separate it when I get to the room. While on the ground though I always keep my cash out of my wallet in a separate pocket. That way if someone's eyeballing me and wants the cash they won't get the wallet as well during the pick. At least that's my thought process. haha.

I like the multiple wallet idea. When I did travel my ID, passport & CC's and any extra big bills are in a separate thin RFID waist pouch hidden under my shirt. Ever since I saw this video I will start to implement the extra precautions for ID, and CC's most of mine is stored in the cloud for back up with pictures taken front to back. Thanks for the tips and I enjoy your adventures. Hey who knows I might run into you someday in S.E.A happy travels.

4 years one personal item here also. Some other good travel hacks: Carry excess weight onto planes with a shopping bag. They can't charge you for it because you can just say you bought it at an airport. Carry a pillow with a zipper with you for the plane. You can throw extra stuff in there if worse comes to worst. Use a waist pack, no one ever tells me it counts as an item, it's basically apparel. Usually I don't use any of these strategies regularly as I have rare need for them but they've always worked when I did need them (usually when I am touching base and am bringing home some gifts for relatives).

Most Asian airlines will weigh your carry-on as alot require you to get a airline issue boarding pass.Australian and Asian budget airlines count maxium 7 kilo/15lbs to include personal item bag.(Scoot u get 10ki/22lbs. The hack of pillow(full of clothes), jacket/vest( pocket full of heavy electronics). Bum bag(under longer shirt & not looked upon as a personal item hemps spread weight to cone under 7kg/15lbs. European budget airlines allow small personal item as heavy under the seat but charge for carryon bag at 7-10kg/15-22lbs. The charges can be double your ticket.

Great tips Kevin. I too don’t check bags. When you said you remove items then put them back, I’ve often done the same. On my last international trip before COVID a budget Argentine airline RE weighed every bag at the gate. I think it was a way to make money because every checked bag cost. This made the gate process very slow, which worked to my advantage because I fortunately saw this before I attempted to present my boarding pass. I went to the restroom took out my iPad and a couple other heavy items, and tucked them into the front of my pants lol I felt like a shoplifter. When I boarded the plane I quickly ducked into the restroom, removed the items and put them back in my carryon. Looking forward to catching up with your videos. I’ve been traveling with poor reception to watch. Stay safe and healthy and happy travels always ♥️👍🏼

Did not realize airlines didn't care if you pulled your laptop out while weighing luggage. I always travel w/ a MSFT Surface Go for weight reasons, but I understand that device would not edit videos super well. As for merino wool, I do not find it durable enough and price is a factor, so I stick to synthetic fabrics infused with silver for odor control. I find them much more durable for doing laundry in the sink. :) Thanks for the content, GL with your travels!

I've found it very durable when made by certain folks. Unbound Merino and Outlier are good. Wooley is terrible. That shirt I had on in this vid is over 2 years old and looks as good as the day I bought it. I need to try those silver infused synthetics though. Thanks for the tip.

Merino Wool is the best. I use it for skiing and off road motorcycle riding. Like you I bring a few sets of the various layers. The problem I have with it is when the clean freshly laundered items get mixed up with the items that have been worn for several days (or weeks sometimes !!), often resulting in great difficulty in telling the "clean" stuff from the worn stuff.

I tried taking a 40L travel backpack last year but the airline had a 7kg (15 lb) maximum for a carryon and when packing for two weeks of clothes, shoes and toiletries it was way more than 15lbs. So I had to check it in as a stow away baggage.

Thanks for this really great and informative video! I've often wondered how light travel vloggers pack. How often do you wash clothes when on the road? Do you wash clothes in the sink? And what kind of soap do you use to wash clothes? Thanks again!
@30AndAWakeUp

I have about 7 days worth but most is merino wool which you can wear for a long time without washing and it's easy to wash in the sink. But normally I do laundry every week or two if im staying in airbnbs
@finned958

I can never pack light enough. I need a medium sized luggage (to be checked in) plus a carryon. If you’re staying for 30 days, it’s not like you’re staying overnight or doing a lot of layovers where a backpack or carryon works better. Since you don’t pack much clothes, you need to do laundry frequently or send it out.
@30AndAWakeUp

I have a weeks worth of clothes plus it's all merino wool. So I do laundry maybe once every 10 days so but could do it less if I wanted.

I am going to be leaving 2 big suitcases behind and just taking my essentials+ a laptop. some great tips ! that are valid only if you go to one hot climate location with no traveling to colder climate! I usually travel to hot tropical climates with long sleeve shirts or long tshirts to protect my skin from eight hours of hot sun, same things for long trousers, also to avoid, well better saying trying to avoid, mosquitos bites. oh and i have the very same day backpack ! and me too I carry an oversized rain jacket! that goes into my daypack

Yeah, in my older packing vids...youll see me pack for cooler whether in a similar size bag. This was just an Asia trip...so I knew I wouldnt need it.
