Steamship Winkelried, named from the Swiss hero of the Sempach battle of 1386.
The most famous Lake "Leman" (Geneva Lake) paddle steamer at the time (1870-1918).

Steam engine was of the "oscillating" type, Built by Escher Wyss & Cie.

The model size is "gauge one" or 1/32 scale .

I built this model, from scratch (metal), starting in 2000. I had to lay down plans of engine, boiler, feathering wheels and the ship itself before proceeding .
The feathering (13 floats) wheels are directly linked to the live steam engine crankshaft, as was the case on the real steamer. No flywheel or reduction gear !
I finished this model in 2005, and then, taking advantage of all the research and plans I did, went on building another Winkelried steamboat, this time from the earlier black hull period: you can see a short video of that model too!

Modèle réduit de bateau à aubes au 1/32ème, élaboration puis construction "de toute pièce", en métal, fonctionnant à la vapeur vive, et représentant le magnifique vapeur Winkelried (1870-1918) du lac Léman, reconnu entre tous grace à ses 2 cheminées.
Il était doté d'une puissante (et gourmande) machine a vapeur oscillante et de roues à aubes à excentrique encore plus grandes que celles des grands vapeurs ( La Suisse, Simplon ou Helvetie ) construit des année plus tard.
