This summer we went to Mount Carleton Park with plans to only paddle. Up until this point our focus had always been on hiking. We stayed at Ash Cabin near Nictau Lake and on the first day after we arrived, we decided to explore Nictau Lake. We started in the narrows in front of the cabin and headed west. On a previous visit, the trails supervisor recommended checking out Vistors Island. We did and it was an amazing place to take a swim under Mount Sagamook. Thanks Kevin for the recommendation.
We then continued on to the new lodge and had lunch before heading back. We saw lots of eagles and mergansers in the lake. Most were around the heart shaped island and Visitors Island. The forecast was for rain but it turned out to be an amazing paddle in a gorgeous location.

Stay tuned for day 2 when we go deep in the park looking for moose. #paddlingnb @ExploreNB #visitorsisland #nictaulake #mountcarletonprovicialpark
