We were off to the Menai Straits for some play on the tidal rapids. For those who don't know the Menai Straits separate mainland Wales from Ynys Mon (Anglesey). The area between the bridges is known as the Swellies (Pwll Ceris in Welsh). The flat water in most of the video is deceptive: it is travelling through at up to 6 knots.
I messed up getting the wave at Ynys Gored Goch. I had thrown the paddle across the boat to attempt to pull the nose around to surf but not quick enough and slid sideways into the breaking wave. With no paddle to support me I went for a quick gunwale push (definite not a grab, honest). It worked.
