The pagan cross is one of the oldest of symbols, and one of my favourites, It is used by pagans to protect and clear their homes from negative forces and has deep ingrained associations with that wonderful wheel of the year sabbat, Imbolc. Should you be feeling the need to add a layer of spiritual protection to your home, then make this cross and hang above your door or window.

Our ancestors made it from both the marshy grasses that were green at this time and the straw left over from the harvest. Although if you make it with straw do ensure that you soak the start first to help make it supple. However the Brigid's cross, Brighid Cross, St Brigid's Cross or Bride's Cross as it is variously known is more than a one trick pony and is a symbol of the wonderful coming of spring, making a fitting offering on any altar at this time, Very much recommend that you place one on your altar for imbolc.
