In Malaysia and Singapore, we have same version of pastry called karipap (curry puffs) or epok-epok (little purses). We use fillings of curry-flavoured minced halal meat with diced potato/yam. Alternatively, fillings are just curry flavoured mash potato/yam. Just eaten on its own. It is interesting to note you use bean sprouts as filling. In Malaysia, we have such beansprout fillings for the popiah (springrolls) and eaten with vinegar chili sauce dipping.
