This is actually the proper method to use for watercolors, going from lightest to darkest in layers that build on top of each other
@liljarantala9207

Yeah, came here to say the same thing lol. The actual reverse would be to paint the darks first and then the light tones, which would 9/10 times lead to disappointment.

The negative painting technique is less about the order of colors and more about the fact that you're painting the negative spaces instead of the objects directly.

Watercolor is painted light to dark or highlights then shadows then mid tones. It's opposite to Acrylics because watercolor is translucent and the white of the paper is the highlight. So, this is a really good example. ❤❤❤

This is very cute but it's not really reverse watercolors, you generally do start with lighter colors since you can't really get lighter than what you've already painted but you can get darker.

Not reverse watercolors, I didn’t hear her say that.. I mean I guess you could say she’s painting reverse in the sense that she’s not creating objects by painting them, she’s creating them by painting around them she’s showing a painting technique called “negative” painting- due to painting the negative space around objects rather than painting the objects themselves. Kinda like w film “negatives” It’s literally just what this technique is called. You start w a wash over the whole page (can also be a gradient wash vs a flat wash), then start adding layers AROUND the paintings’ objects, rather than painting the objects themselves.. I use this negative technique painting leaves and branches, where you keep adding more w each layer Like it’s not a hard concept to understand, and it seems redundant for me to continue trying to explain it in different ways. Do you paint w watercolors? Another way you can get this effect is by masking areas in each layer What this technique does is give your painting more depth in a diff way. It’s not the same as traditional watercolor technique
