Hey, thanks for the kind words! Part of the reason why I haven't uploaded a new cover in a while is because I finally launched the app, and I've been adding a lot of features, but I'm actually recording another cover in a few weeks! You might want to take a look at this playlist, I collect all drum covers played with Paradiddle here: kzitem.info/door/PLIE76wDmoW5GOS4msS5tq58HnHIZqPun2 There's also a drum cover contest going on right now, if you want to compete for some cool prizes including pedals that you can use with the app, definitely consider submitting something! Here's the Steam Store link, the cover contest details are also under announcements: store.steampowered.com/app/685240/Paradiddle/. And finally if you have any other questions definitely join the Discord, there's a bunch of us in there and I'm pretty active on there as well: discordapp.com/invite/wjHnTVr. Happy drumming!

Thanks! Yeah, if I have time in the future I'd like to add something like that as well. The files I currently save out are human-readable files that should be relatively easy to convert to other types of files though, so once the app is out, someone with some time on their hands might be able to add support for this too.

very nice Emre. i want to do this also. from watching both this and the Pokemon cover, it seems like you could play more precisely with the Vive wands? or is that a fluke and they are both just as precise?
@EmreTanirgan
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And you're right, I do think I was more precise with the Vive controllers in this one, and I think there are a few reasons for that. The Oculus Touch controller support was something I added recently, and it needs some fine tuning to figure out how exactly the virtual drum stick should be positioned with respect to the controller. I guess I also got used to VR drumming with my Vive over the past few months, so I might need some more time playing in there with the Touch controllers.
@corpusc

so you don't think either piece of hardware is noticeably more performant than the other for tracking your hands? the difference is just in the way you hold them, with vive wands feeling more naturally like drumsticks, and you having more practice with them? i still haven't purchased either system yet, and if one clearly tracked better i might want to buy that one. a virtual drumkit is one of the ways i'm rationalizing spending so much money on VR. :)

Hey, any idea when this might release? Even as an early access title, I'd be very glad to invest in it and try it out. I've just bought a similar game and I'll give you the same suggestions I gave the other guy: Give us the option to map our own inputs. Any drum sound on any button of the controllers. Also, being able to map the same sound on two different buttons, to make the double drum kick easier. Or/and make an option so that pressing the button will trigger the kick drum, and releasing the button will trigger the drum kick as well. Include different samples for the center of the drum/cymbal, the outside of it and the edge. An option to export a midi of what you've played would be amazing for music production. And finally, the possibility to custom your samples (by dropping snare1.wav snare2.wav snarestronger.wav snarestrongest.wav etc in a custom folder in the game folder) would be insanely useful too! Good luck to you in your project, can't wait to give it a go!

Hey bro. You said you're having troubles with drum dynamics. Is anything related to ghost notes/velocity/etc? If yes, I recommend you to check the 'microdrum' code. It's an open source project for an Arduino electric drum diy. In there, there is a very worked logic. It's really awesome. Anyway, congratulations for your work. It's getting incredible! I'll start an university research about virtual instruments on virtual reallity. I think that we can help each other. What do you think, mate? Cheers.

Absolutely, this is actually one of the features I added as part of last month's update to Paradiddle (steamcommunity.com/games/685240/announcements/detail/1691562403168272563). It's now possible to use a Vive Tracker to track feet or real pedals and trigger the kick drum or hi-hat within the app. This is in addition to all the existing ways the app integrates pedals (MIDI pedals such as electronic drum pedals, USB pedals, Rock Band pedals etc.) Let me know I can answer any other questions!

@@tavetviros For cheap USB pedals, I've had two of these for the past year: HDE USB Foot Pedal Video Game PC Control Hands Free Camera Footswitch ($15.99) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0098PLPOI/. They're a little flimsy but they get the job done, you just set them to emulate a key press and that's how Paradiddle is able to accept input from them. As for the electronic drum pedal I test with, I use the Roland KT-10 Kick Trigger Pedal ($230) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IBIUZQW plugged into the Yamaha DTX502 Electronic Drum Trigger Module ($270) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ELMT4BY. There are way cheaper e-drum pedal + modules though, you could probably get a combination for around $200 total. The main advantage is pressure sensitivity and a more realistic feel - as you press down on the pedal with different strengths, the kick sound will also change accordingly. As I mentioned earlier, you could also use one of the $99 Vive Trackers as a foot/pedal tracker, and it works really well. You can also use a Rock Band pedal, but the way to get that working is a bit involved right now, and the hardware required probably costs around $50. The main advantage of the Rock Band pedals over USB is just the feel of the physical drum, you won't actually get pressure sensitivity with them. Also, I have all of this information on our "foot_pedals" channel on the Paradiddle Discord (discordapp.com/invite/wjHnTVr), I'm pretty active on there so feel free to join us there too!

@@TheCookieJar69 Oh, I wasn't sure if you were aware, but Paradiddle has been out on Steam Early Access for about a year now, for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality headsets (store.steampowered.com/app/685240/Paradiddle/). You might also want to check out the Whiplash cover I recorded a couple of months ago on my profile to see a much more recent version of the app in action. The Early Access version costs $10 and is packed with a lot of features at this point. So yep, the PSVR version will also cost money. The whole cover would sound a lot more monotonous if the drums sounded the same no matter how I hit them. There's also hit location sensitive feedback for some of the drums, so you can hit the edge of the ride cymbal and it'll sound different from hitting the bell part.
