Hi Stacy! I love that the paintings are sideways this time. Now I can enjoy watching the paintings more! Thank you. The messy bun is very lovely. Summer has been cool here, haven’t been able to swim as much- jealous!

Glad you like them! I am still working on getting the camera angle so you can see the painting from my view, straight on. So stay tuned. I'll trade you weather you can have the heat for a bit and I'll take the cooler temperatures.

Recipe recommendation: Tortilla Pie! It’s like lasagna but it’s mexican food. I don’t have a recipe link, but it’s a crowd pleaser whenever we have it for dinner. Give it a google and find a recipe that suits you

Hi Stacy, quick question for you. I see you’re using Pan Pastels in the painting too. Do you put them down and then add clear encaustic over them. Your painting turned out beautifully! Thank you, Debbi S.
@StudioStacy
Жыл бұрын
Hi - Thank you for the very nice compliment and for watching. The pan pastels need to be fused into the wax lightly, but you don't have to put medium over them. You can continue to layer paint or medium over them or just fuse the pastel to the previous layer. It just depends on if this is your final layer or not.

Is the underpainting done with oil paint? Beautiful work!
@StudioStacy
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. The underpainting is done with pastels. I usually use either pastels, watercolor paint, or water-soluble blocks and crayons for my underpaintings.

A lovely piece Stacy. What did you use for the under painting? I saw pastels, both chalk and oil I think but you all used paint and a brush. What type of paint?
@StudioStacy
6 ай бұрын
The oil pastels were actually neo II color crayons I believe. I used a brush with isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol blends the pastels and it looks like paint but isn’t. You could also use watercolor paints for an underpinning with encaustic. Thanks for watching 😍

Hi Stacy. I was wondering what brand of electric griddle you use...it looks to have a lovely smooth surface . I have one or two that are textured and have not been able to find a nice smooth surface palette to work on. Thanks for letting me know.

So my darker griddle has been discontinued unfortunately and there is not a good replacement. However I have 2 other good options for you. The Presto PanGogh (which I have not used) was recommended by a few other encuastic artists. I also have a Farberware Ceramic Coating Griddle, Gray, Nonstick that I purchased at Walmart. It is smaller and has a slight texture to it, but not enough to bother me. Hope this helps.

I am new to encaustic and enjoyed your video and have now subscribed. I realize this was 2 yrs ago but wondered if you could share some further info on this pc. When you did the under painting and referred to pastels…are they just regular pastels? Do you ever use pan pastels? It looked like you spread the pastel colors with a liquid…..water? Or something else? Also, do you remember (best guess) the colors you used….they worked beautifully in this pc. Thank you !
@StudioStacy

Hi. Thanks for subscribing. The pastels I used were soft pastels. I used rubbing alcohol - not water to blend them and spread them around. And I'm sorry I have no idea now what the colors were. As far as pan pastels go, I use those over top of encuastic layers. I have never used them to create an underpainting, but I'm not sure why you couldn't. I say give it a try. Hope this helps. 😍

Hi, do you heat the board before applying the gesso? and also do you add encaustic medium after the gesso onto a warm surface?
@StudioStacy
2 ай бұрын
Hi. I do not heat the board before applying the gesso. I heat the board before applying the encuastic medium or any encaustic paint. And yes I apply encaustic medium after the gesso, making sure the gesso is fully dry before applying any encuastic medium or encaustic paint. Thanks for watching the video. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. 🙂

Very helpful and informative video. Your griddle looks very smooth - who makes it?
@StudioStacy

Thank you. The griddle I use is quite old and it is no longer made. It is by Oster, who I believe still makes griddles, just not this particular one. Sorry that might not be very helpful.

Thanks for the videos Stacy, I'm really enjoying them. Did you use white powder pigment into blonde Shellac for the water? Or is there also other white pigment choices? Thanks very much, appreciate your time.
@StudioStacy

Yes I did. I get my pigments from www.earthpigments.com/ The key is too not add to much pigment and to stir, stir, stir. and then stir some more.

Very beautiful 🎀 I work on thin cardbord and I wish to know how to prepare canvas to be smooth for wax ,to slide.What primer or gesso or lacque Is the Best? To work with layers isnt problem for me. I have amazing work 1metar x 70cm at gallery now.

Canvas is not good for encuastic. It can crack on canvas because canvas is not a solid material. I use wood cradled panels and use encaustic gesso.

Appreciate you and your amazing work. I’m wondering if you have the links for the two torches that you use I know you mentioned 3500 but when I look up to 3500 there’s many different variations and I would like to be able to have exactly the two that you use the large and the regular. Thank you.

I purchased this at Lowes hardware: low.es/3tDgilJ The larger torch I purchased at a local Tractor Supply and is called: Mr. Torch Cyclone Propane Torch Head, model number HB-875B-B www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/mr-torch-cyclone-propane-torch-head?cm_vc=-10005 Hope this helps.
