In this watercolor tutorial I’m painting Christmas angels in the winter sky. This can be a good idea for painting Christmas cards or gift. I’ll share three different techniques and walk you through the step by step process from drawing to painting the whole piece. I’ll Also show how to use a limited color palette to paint this cozy winter illustration and adding some extra magic with shimmering gold watercolors. How to use gouache together with watercolors.
Supplies:
Prussian blue from Daniel Smith watercolors
Masking fluid from Winsor & Newton
Watercolor book from Hahnemühle, 100% cotton, 250 gsm, fine grain
Synthetic watercolor brushes. I’m using 3 sizes from a Swedish local brand (Kreatima). Brush sizes from different brands differ from each other. For example size one from one brand can be same as size 4 from another one, hence it’s difficult to give precise sizes that can be a match.
Eraser
Colored pencils, Polychromos, Faber Castell, white and blue for details
Permanent white and primary red gouache from Winsor & Newton
Washington tapes or masking tape
Hairdryer for speeding up the drying process
Gold watercolors from Colors by Vita, I can also recommend ones from Finetec brand
