This video is a fast record of my painting of The Kiss (Lovers) by Gustav Klimt. See below for details about the full length videos, which are for sale.
I used the original painting online at The Belvedere Museum, Vienna, as my source material - along with a high res copy. Every detail is as accurate to the original as I could possibly make it. The painting proportions are not square as the original and it is smaller too. The original is 180cm x 180cm. Mine is 100cm x 80cm. However, the faces are not sanitised as so many copies are, but contain the original yellows and blues, with their wonderful irregular and beautiful features. I am still in two minds about whether they should be so pale - the Belvedere website is as I have made it, but I really need to see the original to be sure - a trip to be made some day! The background is not made up of gold leaf squares (I've seen this done) because it's clear the original is random brush work. I used 22 carat gold leaf where possible. It took several weeks to complete, but it's one of my favourite paintings and I learned a great deal recreating it. It is for sale if you wish to make enquiries.
I have a full length series of 3 videos with this painting in almost real time (speeded up, but only slowly) and I explain exactly what I am doing (materials, techniques) throughout. Please contact me if you would like these - they cost £30 and I can email them direct to you.
