This is pretty fantastic. Aside from just painting the model by brush, not just by airbrush like many big minipainting youtubers do (feels great to me since I don't have one), you also subtly explain the value of color theory and really show how powerful it can be. I'm also a huge fan of using washes in creative ways, something I find many frowning upon for some reason, but you've used them in a fantastic way- and not just in this video. Seldom have I subscribed to someone the same day I found them, today I did. Can't wait to see more from you, and you'll be the one on my monitor when I paint the coming days. Excellent.

Trovarion out of curiosity as someone who just returned to the hobby after 20+ year break, how much time do you invest in a mini to this quality? The reason I'm asking is that I feel I spend far too much time to get a mini to tabletop standard, we're talking 5 hours for a mini or even more.
@trovarion
4 жыл бұрын
it took some time, but not that much, since a lot of it was indeed washes and washes applied through airbrush, which saves time of course. I cannot really say how long, because I don't have a feeling for time when I paint and also I had to film of course, while painting, which dillutes everything a lot more. Ultimately....you should do what you like. If you enjoy taking longer for your minis...take as long as you need. If you are having fun with it, that's what you should do. Unless you are in a hurry to finish an army for an event, you should not rush through it and hopefully people will understand and wont be dicks when they play against part of your army not being painted. And if they don't then you should find some nicer people to play with :)
@Eazfb
4 жыл бұрын
@@trovarion Oh I don't really paint to play, I paint because I missed painting, but I just feel I keep going back to my minis correcting things and hence never actually finishing a mini. You and Marco Frisoni are my main inspirations when it comes to painting and I just love your and his work.

Love the video, and your earlier 9th edition Necrons video inspired me to take the same approach with my army. I also use the Vallejo Metal Color Dark Aluminum over a black primer, but I've found that if I use it straight out of the bottle onto a smooth surface, it seems to not cover very well and overall just seems extremely runny. A 2nd or 3rd coat usually does the trick to make it seems like an even coat of metal, but anything less than that it almost looks splotchy. In your video here it seems like the metal color coats pretty thickly on the wings, are you going straight from the bottle to the model when you use it? Do you need multiple coats or does one seem to do the trick for you? Love the content and this model looks amazing! I will likely use most of these tips when painting mine!

Nice video, as always ! Awesome paintjob and awesome composition ! I've a question for you or the community : Vallejo metal color (airbrush) are the best metal colors I have tried so far. I've see lot of miniatures painters using the aluminium color (vallejo), especially for mixing with other paints. - Did they use Duraluminium or Dull aluminium ? and what is the difference ? - Why don't using silver or chrome paint ? - What metal colors did you consider mandatory to possess to not have too much paint but not to be too limited ? (I come back to the hobby after 10 years not painting). Thank you in advance !
@trovarion
3 жыл бұрын
Duraluminium - Dull aluminium - I never heard of these colors. Are we talking about the same metallics? silver/chrome - idk! I used these because they are ok. why not use carpaint? why not use color X, why not use color Y, why not...irrelevant really. Use them if you like to use them! you dont need that many metallic colors. a medium tone (Dark Aluminium e.g.) and a very bright tone (White Aluminium) are enough. You can always darken the medium tone by mixing in black or by washing it.

I've used blu stuff quite a bit. If you are struggling with the stuff sticking together, let the stuff cool down as much as you can, then just add water! Just make sure it's covered, then add your hot piece right on top. If that doesn't work, you can always try the trick used on silicone moulds, talc. Just dust some on and apply the hot piece with most of the water gone. Then you can wash any talc left. Hope it helps!
