Incredibly smooth, clear and detailed. CONGRATULATIONS. For me is a pain to obtain this but i struggle until perfection.

Excellent work! I've been experimenting with similar techniques, altering things based on scale, with varying results. I have tried hairspray, salt, sponges and a pre-shaded 'mottling' effect simular to yours (among others) Showing wear & tear adds realism to your model but duplicating the weathered, 'mottled' finish of a real aircraft gives the most realistic results. Well done!

That's so coincidentally weird. When I was about 16 I used the exactly same same jar with the same lid, to hold my thinner and/or turpentine.

I let the thin set glue wick into the joints. The glue stains the seams, but they disappear when I paint the model. Recently, I used some MRP lacquer based paint and the glue seams are visible. Is this because its lacquer based, or do some paints let the glue joints show through?...thanks-

Love this video! Question: how are you achieving such small spray lines from the airbrush when mottling? I can’t seem to get my brush to paint smaller lines. I tried different size needles but no effect
4 жыл бұрын
I use 0,15 or 0,2 mm needle with very diluated paint. About 60% - 70% of thinner. Low pressure.

Thank you so much for sharing!!! What about when the painting should be white? How do we make the same effect? BR and thanks again.
7 жыл бұрын
Bernardo Hernández . Thanks! It's the same technic for white color but make your mottling with medium grey. step 1: base color white. step 2: mottling grey. step 3: spray with very diluated white.
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! With white base, the result is a little bit similar. It depends of quantity of black mottling.

For Navy aircraft, do you prime the bottom with gray as well (if the plane has a white bottom and gull grey top)? After the primer, paint the white, mottle with darker grey, then mist over again with white? Thanks!

Build maximum except some final parts. I glue canopy, fuel tank, landing gear and some details after painting the whole aircraft.

primer / thinner what proportion ?
6 жыл бұрын
I use primer on spray (Tamiya Or Mr Hobby or Vallejo). For paint, mix about 60% thinner and 40% paint. Sometimes more thinner for transparent effects. It depends of texture of paint too. Aspect of half creamed milk.

Nice! I will be giving this a try with a F-8 Crusader soon. Have you tried the 'black basing' technique? If so, how does it compare to the gray basing? Thanks! Drew

Thank you ! For my opinion, black basing gives a more darker result. You must balance it with more white mottling.

well, both are not readily accessible to me so I'll have to stick to Tamiya and Vallejo Model Air paints. Thanks Fred!

Ok. Tamiya is great! I don't like Vallejo. Too stick and "glue". Add more Vallejo thinner if you use it.

Unicorn Warhammer even though the aircraft are mechanically maintained and a wash job was required every month, both gull grey and the ghost grey paint jobs showed their age very fast.
