Spray your primer as crazy as you want but when it comes to top coat you need to spray horizontal and come back and back roll it vertically. Also wouldn't hurt to use a bigger tip. Another tip is to spray your walls first then spray the ceiling. Its much easier the mask the wall rather than masking the ceiling.
@palehorse24681

That all depends on how skilled your crew are tbh. We spray ceilings first, then brush and roll the walls. Our guys are fast and we have amazing cutters that hold a straight line all yr. By the time the ceiling is dry for taping, they'd be brushing in the second coat, or finishing the first on another room, so we dont tape it. Depends on the job and how you organize them also. And it doesnt look like theres any type of urgency on your part here. Glad you were not on a tight deadline here. The video was great. Great set up. Good on you guys for using the coveralls and respirators. Is he wearing shoe covers too? Lol. That overspray dust ruins shoes smh.

@@als3449 if we aren't painting the ceiling the best way is to brush in the cut. Load up the brush with paint by dipping the brush bristles about half way into the paint and swirling it to opene the bristles up to take more paint. Use the side of the bucket to take the excess off. When you start cutting dont ever go with a loaded brush right to the edge. Start brushing in about half inch to quarter inch from the ceiling and work the paint to the appropriate line. Make sure the tip of the bristles doesnt have paint accumulated on the sides and the brush with follow the curve of the ceiling and the paint will only stay on the walls. Once you've filled the wall and texture with some paint, reload again and remove excess on side of bucket. This time go to the edge and lay the brush on its side horizontally and do the brush strokes with the brush being as parallel to the wall as possible. Be careful here because the paint will make the brush glide here and its up to you to keep it straight here. You can go on the ceiling here but if you dont cut in with the paint being applied in the second manner the cut will be too light. Dont forget to feather out the bottom hard line you might get or that will be noticeable. Cutting ain't easy brother lol. I hope all that made sense.

Michael, will all my due respect (and like Kefir), I agree that your technique is incorrect, 99% of spraying is done horizontally (not vertically), you just got lucky if your final result is OK. By painting horizontally you increase productivity , use less material (with a different lay on overlapping), you activate the pump of the machine much less time (the start and stop of the pump is what eventually will kill it, like any other pump).You also could have used an extension (saving all the mentioned, plus your body mechanics/read abductors/). We are here to learn from each other, don't take it wrong. Good luck.

@palehorse24681

@@michaelabelaj1581 you better be careful listening to this guy. Hes not explaining in full where and why you should not spray that way. Fade out the horizontal spraying at the corners if you're going that route. His technique is a production technique where the paints would more than likely not have much sheen to it. You'll risk getting a box outlined thats noticeable to a trained eye. Same goes for doors. Doors you would only spray one way, don't matter but dont shoot the perimeter of the doors and then fill the middle, same shit will happen like on the wall if you do it wrong. Good luck to ya.

I've used multiple tip sizes, but I find that the 415 works best for me. With all tips, there is some 'overspray' which is typical in using paint sprayers. I tried using the shield, but I keep getting challenged with 'overspraying'. I've seen videos of professionals who paint almost every single day and they do a great job with the shield, but only painting once or twice a year, I'm better off spending the time masking all areas to catch the overspray.

Practice just spraying water onto a wall guy Best way to learn on your own look at your spray pattern make sure you have no “fingers” in your spray and that it is consistent Your tip sizes also play a big role in how wide and thick you will get out don’t “waste a pass” by simply going in one direction spray upward and downward or left and right both as your going and coming back

You can use a shield and you'll get a decent line.. has to be a dead flat and I push the customers towards earth tones because that's literally what popular right now and the grey, blues, and purples look good.. i can blow out a 2 story interior walls and ceiling in a day myself.. I'll pull the masking off the trim that spray previously the day before do some minor touch upd on the ceilings (I say this with PERSONAL REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE DOiNG THIS) and go get my check.. Done hella new construction interior jobs like this. Nobody here in California wants to spend money on experience or professionalism anymore so at the end of th day I have to put food on my table and I know the rich white people would rather hire a bunch of hacks in front of home depot and pay them 20 bucks an hour while they have brand new cars in front of their house and sending their kids to college to get a stupid degree in astrology so I have to adapt. Painters have to adapt to the changes in the industry

@@johnathan5720 I think the best way to minimize paint misting is to use a small tip like a 4 inch (211 tip) or 6 inch (311 or 313 tip). However, even with a smaller tip, there's going to be some misting. I would recommend masking areas where there is a possibility of overspray. You can see in the video that I spent a lot of time masking the ceiling so that the overspray wouldnt affect the ceiling.
