Tarikh Episode 617
In this episode Tarikh Nikhil talks about lies told in pakistan about 1971 war.
The Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 was a pivotal moment in the history of the Indian subcontinent. The conflict arose from longstanding political and economic disparities between East and West Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh and Pakistan). Tensions escalated when the Pakistani government refused to grant linguistic and cultural rights to Bengali-speaking East Pakistan.
The situation reached a breaking point on March 26, 1971, when the Pakistani military launched a brutal crackdown in East Pakistan. This led to widespread atrocities and prompted millions of refugees to flee to neighboring India. In response, India intervened in support of the Bangladeshi independence movement.
The war culminated in the decisive Battle of Dhaka in December 1971, where Indian forces, alongside Mukti Bahini (Bangladeshi freedom fighters), defeated the Pakistani military. On December 16, Pakistan officially surrendered, leading to the creation of the independent state of Bangladesh.
The conflict's resolution was formalized through the Shimla Agreement on July 2, 1972, between India and Pakistan. Under this agreement, Pakistan recognized the independence of Bangladesh, and prisoners of war were repatriated. The war and the subsequent Shimla Agreement reshaped the geopolitical landscape of South Asia.
