The SNES/SFC consoles with the separate sound module are actually earlier revisions than what you have there. My SFC has the separate sound module that you can detach and has a copyright year of 1990 last I checked. .

Complete disregard for the significantly more powerful SVP in Virtua Racing here, it blew the Super FX away by damn near ten times the polygon pushing power, and was built into the cart. It ran at around 23 MHz, which was well over double the Super FX. Sure, it was more expensive too, but it was MILES better. Sega could quite easily have made more games using SVP, and they would've smashed the Super FX in the process, especially in terms of cost. A bit of false info RE the speed of PAL SNES and NES games, use the correct PAL version cart on the NTSC console and see how much faster it is on some games. Even the original Super Mario Bros on NES will show what i'm talking about. Obviously you'd be using real hardware to test this and not an emulator. The large chip is the ROM chip. The smaller chips are CIC and bank switching. I think you'll find the Super Famicom was the last to be released out of all 3 regions. What you have there are clearly two different revisions, hence the differing layout. SNES emulation was functional in the late 90s, and worked before the Mega Drive emulation did. As for the black borders, adjust the vertical amplitude setting in the service menu on your CRT, and it'll fill the screen.

The Mega Drive was 3 years old by the time the SNES came out, so obviously it would be slightly better technically than the Mega Drive

True, although it's two years - 88- 90.

@@themodule8335 it may as well have been a decade, the Mega Drive still had the edge in a lot of ways, especially processing power.

The other launch title you were forgetting was F-Zero.

I'm not overly convinced they did any complete or very thorough research before they created this content, but hey, they're not the first to do that.

So could you swap out the motherboard to the others shells?

I would assume so, yeah? Although they do seem to be two different revisions and obviously at the very least the modulator/graphics output hardware is going to be different.
