So I decided to try Saflager 34/70 Lager yeast in another style after the IPL I recently brewed turned out so well. I figured a Pale Ale would be a good place to try it again. This time I split the batch though and fermented one with Saflager 34/70 and the other with WLP001, White Labs Cali Ale Yeast. I'm glad I tried it out but was definitely not as pleased with the results of this one. Brew day did not go as smooth for this beer as usual either and it started with my poor decision to use less water than the recipe called for. I made the decision because in the past few batches I had too much wort left over. It ended up being an issue with my system profile in Brewfather which has since been fixed. Brew day was then disrupted by a clogged valve which was an easy fix but frustrating nonetheless. I made things a bit more difficult by adding to this a split batch experiment and fermenting in kegs for the first time. In the end it made beer which is good, but it wasn't what I hoped it would be. I'm including the recipe for the original beer as I was intending it to be. But because I changed the water amount I ended up with something different. I also need to mention that I preferred the ale yeast, WLP001 Cali Ale yeast, much better. I wouldn't waste your time trying the lager yeast in this one. It will get drank and I won't dump it but the ale yeast was definitely better. Home brewing to me is about trying new things and learning from past failures. So even though this wasn't my favorite beer, it is still beer and I learned a lot. Learn from my mistakes and don't change your recipe during brew day! Change it before and adjust things as needed and, as always, thanks for watching, happy brewing, and stay thirsty.
Cheers!!

Recipe below is for the intended 5.5 gallon recipe using just the Cali ale yeast WLP001 (don't waste your time with the lager yeast). And remember I cut my water short on this and made a 6.5% beer and that is why I think mine ended up not tasting as good. I will brew this beer again in the future using this recipe and NOT changing the water on brew day!
