They are always well constructed and to the point, and offer a lot of information that you simply can't get from watching a Bob Ross television special. I rarely sign into KZitem but I thought you should know you're doing a great job. Thanks again.

between each time you apply the white are you wiping off your knife? the hardest part I struggle with is creating that natural ridge to divide the light and dark. I've done 3 paintings so far and I can see the progression of my paint breaking for the snow which is fun do you have suggestions for creating that natural flowing ridge? the hand jiggle is a good tip i've heard you say and then scraping the outlines into the mountain to help separate the highlights... I'm trying to paint these with oil, wet on wet trying to follow bob ross (for the most part) haha unitl i get frustrated and create something not even close to what he doing haha. Do you have classes or cohorts where we can ask questions? I've seen your other channel wild creates and would love to learn more and fine tune everything. I appreciate all you put out and for sharing your passion. All the Love, All the Power! Kev

@daamericandude

One thing I've found for bushes and trees is to really thin out the paint. Usually use the liquid white but you could use thinner. Just dip in the first 1/2 inch of the brush into the white, then into color. Pull through the color at least a dozen times where the bush is fully perpendicular (90 degrees) to the paint and/or palette. You have to really load the brush with a lot of paint. Start the leaves just slightly higher than the dark undercoat and only slightly push up - don't slide. Let the paint come off by itself - don't force it.

I have a knife that looks exactly like the one you posted, but it's a Master's Touch knife, and the blade seems just as sharp as the Bob Ross knife, so I broke down and ordered one from Michael's, from the link you posted. Hopefully it helps. It's always seemed like it would be easier to put the highlights on the mountains without the liquid white underneath, because that would keep the thicker paint from grabbing on.
@Wild4
6 жыл бұрын
I think you will find the new knife a great leaping off point. Working on a dry canvas for paint-breaks is HUGE, cause the paint will easily grab the canvas due to the toothing of the canvas. This is why it is SUPER IMPORTANT to work off all the extra paint that is on the mountain before applying highlights to it. Let me know how that new knife works out for you 💪
@jasonfella265
6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I just got the knife in the mail, that you recommend in the video. I compared it to the Bob Ross knife, and I'm not feeling or seeing any kind of rounded, roll off type edge you mentioned in the video. The knife feels almost exactly the same in every way, except that the Ross knife is just a touch sharper. But I'd be shocked if that subtle difference was of any practical value. Will try it out soon

Yet another awesome tutorial, but I have a question from it: ON this video it looked to me as though your Titanium White was much thinner than the one I use. I have the Bob Ross Titanium White and it is very "Dry" right from the tube. I was wondering if you use a different brand, or thin yours maybe with liquid white? Is it ever helpful to thin it? The tube I am using is almost used up, I will be opening another one that is also Bob Ross brand, perhaps I will find my first tube was defective. What do you say? Thanks for all you are doing.
@Wild4

From my experience when starting out a nice dry firm paint is best with paint breaks. But you could try thinning it a tad and see if that helps. Do what you think is best.

Another great tip is, you must have very dry paint in order to get it to "break" you can dry you paint by letting it sit on a piece of card board for 20 minutes or so. The cardboard will soak up the excess oil and the paint will be dry. It also helps to put you card board pallet in the freezer for a few minutes also with the paint on it. I promise if you have dry paint to start with, it will be a lot easier to get it to "break". Of course using the tips in the video will help tremendously as well, but if your still having trouble, try what I mentioned.
