I didn’t know there were zone palm pushers in Florida! Love it! I’m zone pushing palm trees here in Southern Ontario.

All the support to you my friend! What kinds are you growing there? Yes its funny because the entire state is classified as subtropical, but only half the state(Central to South) are considered full tropical

WildTropics back at ya! I’ve been growing palms here for almost 10 years. I’m limited in what I can grow. I have the most luck with Windmill Palms, needle palms and sabal minor. I have some videos of them on my KZitem channel plus how I protect them.

It is a beautiful coconut. I have been feeding it with slow release 8-2-12 fertilizer

Thank you for the update. I was worried about my two coconut palms last week down here in Cape Coral. We dropped down into the mid to high 40s at night for two days and only the high 60's for the day. Its warmed backup nice here. This week we might get another cold 40s night. Its also been very dry here. No rain.

I know what you mean. Last week was our first cold snap and gosh did it come early this year. We hit 36 here one night and low 40s two others. Sad thing is that it happend before I had a chance to get the frost cloths and halogen lamps. I have them all now though and am ready for the season! Thankfully its warming up!

Have you learned how to keep the Adonidia palms alive in winter, after last year failure? Also , we get in Canary islands, worst winter night time temp of 50f then days 70f or more. But always windy. North east wind can feel cold. Does florida get very windy? No coconuts this year?

I sure have. this year I have purchased 300ft of 6ounce commercial grade frost cloth to cover each palm from ground to over the fronds and will put a heat lamp underneath each plant as well within the cloth. I am making a greenhouse for each plant. THEY WILL NOT DIE THIS YEAR! I will make a video on it all when I do it.

thanks for the advice on those, I am working on getting together some other tropical plants in the Spring to go along side the palms. This winter I just wanted to focus on protecting and growing the palms though

Hope this year it does not go down below 27 degrees because I’m planting a lot of palms this year including coconut palms and I live in north Texas so it’s kind of scary I’m going to cover them over for the winter but even then there is a slim chance they still might not make it

best wishes to you in your journey! If you do plant tropicals then you will need to cover them well and probably provide a heat source too.

WildTropics they say to use Christmas lights is that ok ?
@wildtropics5354

@@rise-fromashes As long as the lights are actual incandescent bulbs that produce heat then that will help some. However, even the C9 bulbs dont put off that much heat. I suggest for any real cold sensitive palms using a 500w halogen lamp.
