This place is similar to our local park, because of the size, but Palmetto is much nicer. Our park is called Birch Grove Park, it is owned by the city (Northfield) and gets some state funding. Birch Grove Park is quiet, has some nice trails, and is good for bass fishing. Thanks for showing us Palmetto. My daughter in law has family in Texas, so it would be a place we can consider going to if we decide to buy a camper.

Palmetto is a pretty state park that in size resembles Mission Tejas. Both are beautiful parks with lots of vegetation.

This is a beautiful park. It reminds me of much of Florida. Isn't it wonderful to be able to stay in any of the sites you want to stay in?

Looks so green and shady. Are you still loving your new rig?? Isn't it fun to find something new "close" to home? :)

I think we love the new rig more each time we take it out. Palmetto State Park is so lush and green. It's a really great little state park.

Living in the country...snakes go where they want regardless of high, low or no grass. Palmetto maintaining trails and providing warning signs is more likely for your safety - better chance of spotting something ahead. Looks like a park I need to add to my list. Swampy area = more reptiles, but were there any gator warnings? Thanks for the review.

In all of the Texas State Parks we've visited, we've never seen a snake, Of course, we stay on clearly marked trails. We saw no gators or warnings.

if I am just going to the park for the day, where would you recommend I park and are trails fairly easy?
@TwoTiredTeachers

As I recall, most of the trails are fairly easy. Be sure you reserve a day pass online before you go, and print out your permit. There are a couple of places you could park. My best advice is to pick up a park map and a trail map and let that be your guide.

The palmettos are totally different from the vegetation in other parks we've visited. We will go back when we can stay longer.

Did you see or hear any snakes? We like to take walks with our little dog and he likes to sniff along the trails. It does make me nervous about going through Texas which we are planning to do next late fall, winter, and early spring when we tour the southwest. I saw one video where a camper came out and a rattler was near his steps.

We didn't see or hear any snakes. As long as you stay on the trails in most of the Texas State Parks, you should be fine. Just be aware of your surroundings.

Another state park to add to the list! PS: Love the t-shirt: “Retired Teacher: Every Child Left Behind”. I have a friend who is retiring in June from teaching 4th graders, something like that would be perfect!

Palmetto is a beautiful park that is unlike any we've seen in TX. I got the shirt shortly after I retired 3 and a half years ago. It said exactly what I needed it to say.😎
