The ancient city of Hierapolis became famous for its hot healing mineral springs. The city was built by the Romans in 133 BC as a resort. Pilgrims flocked here hoping to get rid of their ailments. Unfortunately, the thermal waters did not help with all diseases and those who could not be cured were buried near Hierapolis after death. That is why a large Necropolis was formed over time near the resort city.
Hierapolis survived several eras - Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman, was destroyed several times by earthquakes and lasted until 1354, when the last most powerful earthquake finally destroyed it.
If you are traveling without a group, we recommend that you start your tour of Hierapolis from the North Gate. The advantage is the lack of crowds of tourists from group tours. If your goal is to visit the ancient Cleopatra pool, then it is located closer to the South Gate. A video about the ancient pool can be viewed at the link • Памуккале. Бассейн Кле...
Channel "Russian Eagle Travels" is travel, food, recreation and everything connected with them. Interviews with Russians living abroad, as well as reviews of restaurants and hotels where you can relax during your trips.
