You explain things very well. I have watched so many instructional videos for games and they ALWAYS start with the rules or structure of the game, but you start by talking about the GOAL... how to win... and then go from there. Smart and helpful. Thanks!!

To answer the question posed by Tom: yes, as a fan of the Golden Age of Aviation and especially of the legendary Pan Am, the title and theme instantly drew me in to watch this review and nearly sold me with that alone (vintage aviation is an underutilized theme). Further, the art and graphic design reflect the style used by Pan Am and its contemporaries in the 1950s, so the look is very thematic. All I needed to hear was that it was a good game. Sold!

I'm not in the market now for Eurogames since I've made the move to wargames, but as soon as I saw this I knew I wanted it. Pan Am, vintage aviation, cool art...I pre-ordered it instantly, without even seeing a single review. I never do that. But this literally checked every box for me.

Vintage theme is very attractive. Even the Pan Am logo is great. Much more appealing than most of artwork for recent games. Afterall why not reusing a logo that almost everybody is already familiar with ? The game looks great. There 's no so many intermediary games with stocks auction.. i ll buy a ticket too

I ordered it. Pan Am holds a bit of nastalgia for me as it was the airline we used when we moved (back) to the US back in '85; as kids, my brother and me were treated like royalty.

This game looks awesome. I've always been fascinated by Pan Am as a company and so this theme is actually really cool to me. Kinda looks like an aviation version of Irish Gauge or Ride the Rails. I'm definitely intrigued. Plus I have enjoyed Prospero Hall's other game (Jaws, Horrified). They are quality games for the price.

Just played this game and I loved it! Loved the bidding worker placement, selling routes to Pan Am, and buying stocks “cheap” only for them to go down again the next round! Drama! Super fun. Play some 20s-50s music while playing and it just sets the mood.

My Family tried the game yesterday. The win condition seems off to us with it only being based on stock owned. For example, the Jet Liners don't come out until turn 6 and so are next to impossible to recoup your money back on them. That is almost the case with a lot of actions in the last couple of rounds as you don't want to spend any money since you won't have enough turns left to recoup it and you need it all to buy stock. In my opinion, the win option would have been better with a stock + something else to motivate people more. Maybe plus income?

The jets can come out earlier if a certain event card comes up. And there are directive cards that give you a massive discount on planes, or even a free airplane upgrade. There was also a late-game event (Round 7, if I remember correctly) that doubles income. Having a "4" route with a jet could pay off in that instance. To me, the jets are all a situational play that could lead to more $, which leads to more stock - even if they're available in just the last two rounds.
@a.wosaibi

@@sroeland1 That and you could potentially sell them for a massive pay-out at the end if the Pan Am symbol is rolled or with certain Directive cards. Depends on how lucky you're feeling

@@garyellis8370 Huh. Might have gone down again today. I double checked before buying it yesterday to see if I could mark it down further, but the computer system didn't have a price change below 50% yet. I considered waiting to see if it would drop more if I let it go for another week or two, but it was the last copy at my store, so I didn't want to risk someone else beating me to it.

@sroeland1
2 жыл бұрын
Not really. Pan Am offers much more versatility in the way you claim the routes, i.e. there are 4 ways to get landing rights (airports, have the card, discard one in region, or discard two from outside the region) vs. essentially one way to claim a route in TtR (have the right color trains). Also, the Pan Am phase itself sets this game apart, as the routes you choose aren't based on completing a route on a ticket, but on strategic decisions and luck, thanks to events and the roll of the die. Then there is the auction/bidding components, the worker placement, the resource management of destinations and airplanes, the in-game economy, and the directives, which add a major wrinkle. While the comparison to TtR can make sense at first glance, Pan Am is a much different experience IMO.
