From time to time, I would make stuff up on my guitar just because I want to play the tune. This is my pretty lightweight guitar arrangement, if you can call it that, of a classic Filipino 1970s music by the pop group Hotdog. I grew up with their music, particularly the song "Manila" which up to now is so great to listen to. PANAGINIP (Dream) was sung by the band's singer Gina Montes and is about a woman disbelieving that she's with the one she loves, and if it's a dream that she never wakes up. I like listening to songs from the 70s Manila Sound era because I feel singers back then sang with their heart and conveyed the meaning of the song with simplicity.
Hotdog, currently performing as Sound of Manila, is a Filipino band formed by brothers Dennis and Rene Garcia (deceased) that achieved fame in the Philippines during the mid-1970s. Their first album, Unang Kagat, was released in 1974 by Villar Records. The album led to the 1975 movie of the same name, also starring the band. The band was credited by local journalists as a major influence on and leading exponent of the Manila Sound, a musical genre popular during that period. One of the band's biggest hits is the song "Bongga Ka, 'Day" (1979). Another one of their hit songs, "Annie Batungbakal", also produced a popular and successful movie. The hits of Hotdog also sang of relevant social issues. "Manila" was a song dedicated to the millions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are away from their families and long for the taste of their home city, Manila, Philippines.
