I was born and raised there from '59 to '79. Most Panamanians have made it a point to preserve the former CZ in its original form as much as possible and to continue to maintain those communities to the highest of standards. Thanks to their efforts the place remains both attractive and recognizable. Thank you for sharing this video and thank you to the current residents of the former Canal Zone who make the place what it is today.

I was born and raised in the Zone. You drove past my church, schools, the hospital I was born in, and almost made it to one of the houses I lived in. Great ending going over the Bridge of the Americas!

I am from Panama and I used to live in Albrook since 1982 to 1996. At the same time my best memories that I had was the swimming pool, the youth center, the bowling alley, Anthony's pizza, the shoppet, the video store, and the baseball field near by the swimming pool. I will always remember all the fun times and great times I had in Panama and I do miss Albrook to this day🇵🇦🇺🇸

Great video! I was born in the Canal Zone and graduated from Balboa High school. My family all relocated in the states. This video reminds me so much of my dad driving us kids all around the areas I grew up. The area does not look too bad except for some buildings like the theater in Balboa across from the commissary that looks old and unkept. I remember the cafeteria next to the theater the bowling alley, and the nice park across from the post office where the Cuna Indians used to sell their Molas and hand made trinkets. That round park does not seem to exist. I was very surprised that there was not much traffic where you drove. Could it be because the only people driving are mainly residents of the former Canal Zone homes? Thanks so much for the very nice work you did in making this video!

@@theloneexplorer507 Unique arquitecture you won't find elsewhere in Latin America. Looks like a suburb of a US city.

@@guillermogouldburn763 I call it classic American Colonial style, with sprinklings of French Colonial because some of the houses were there from the times when the French were building the canal. I lived in one of them. The ones on stilts (pillars). Because the thought back then was they didn't know if that might end up becoming a flood zone, so they erred on the side of caution.

"Gringoland" back in the day. My Uncle office was in the building around 4:49 to 5:00 in this vid. Wow, still looks about the same. Some of the old places like Ft. Sherman haven't faired as well.

Totally recognizable but so much has changed! I watched Jaws at the Balboa theater. The only movie I ever saw at the Ancon theater was The Bad New Bears. Kelly Leak is still my hero to this day, because he gave 0 fcks.
