Love the excitement Robin! I just managed to pick this 9mm f1.7 up as well over the Christmas period, it was finally easily available in the UK and my local camera store even had a Christmas discount on this lens! So far I'm really loving it, I think you will really enjoy it for photography. The micro contrast is lovely and you can get super close to the subject for an ultrawide! The only issue I've noticed so far is a bit of purple fringing when shooting into bright light, but I think that's common with all Panasonic lenses on Olympus bodies. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this lens!

I’m glad someone has finally said the Olympus 8-25 is a bit hefty for an f4 lens despite the versatile range. Looking forward to your full review on the 9mm f1.7

It is indeed very heavy compared to my other lenses, but I also understand that it is impossible to make it smaller and lighter (wide angle zoom) without some kind of compromise. For what it is, the optical performance is excellent.

Well just wanted to say I broke down and found myself a brand new open box 75mm 1.8 for $350 and it’s been a ton of fun for concerts. Put it on a em5 then flip the view screen around and they think you are bringing in a film camera and leave you alone.

I use the 9, 20, and 56 as my main indoor/low light lenses for events. Before this I had the Laowa 10, which I loved. Still that autofocus is easier. THen 10 reminded me of old film days when I started. I have a 17/1.2 but it is not convenient for events and I use it special character when I am planning on making prints. I do like the wider look as your vlogging lens.

I agree, with AF it is just so much more convenient. I am a one man crew so vlogging with manual focus is another problem I don't want to have to deal with.

Great video 😁 I recently traded the Oly 12 F2 for the Pany 12 F1.4…I really love that lens but now I am curious about the 9mm…I also have the Oly 8-25…enjoyed reviews about it and definitely found benefits to using it…it’s hard to break Gear Acquisition purchasing when so many good products are produced…decisions decisions 😁

The Panasonic 12mm F1.4 is a great lens, though a bit on the pricey side. For me F2 is bright enough and I don't need F1.4 for wide angle shooting. Nevertheless the 9mm offers a different coverage altogether!

I'm looking at the Olympus em5 miii and 9 mm combo for outdoor vlogging. Have you noticed any shortcomings with this setup? I heard it splits the video files, rather than one big video file. Any issues with that? Would it be better to buy the OM-5 instead?

Love this lens, have it right here on my GX9 been doing a photo project with it this week - love my 7-14 2.8 Oly image wise (and that two extra mm on the wide end makes a BIG difference) but the light weight, the small size, the faster speed of the Pano 9 I'm OK giving those 2mm up for travel

Hey Robin, fantastic video as always. Got interested in the 9mm though for a different reason. I know you are interested in macro and this Len’s can do half macro.. so maybe someday u can do one dedicated to its macro use, especially frogs. Take care robin.

Thanks. But I don't think the frog appreciates a lens being shoved so close to the face. A longer macro lens is better for wildlife.

= ) I own that Sennheiser MKE 400 | Manfrotto mini tripod | Leica **9mm/1.7 = ( Not the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III = ) Lumix DC-GH5II I really enjoy and appreciate the commitment to the µ4/3 system. However, I would say, carrying around a small pouch containing the 12mm or 15mm | 45mm | 75mm would not be such a cumbersome notion for walking about, while the **9mm is on camera… 🤔

Is the autofocus slower using the panasonic 9mm 1.7 on the olympus body instead of native panasonic body. I heard people say it only uses contrast autofocus instead of phase detect when you connect a panasonic lens on a Olympus body.

The distortion on video has been "corrected" in camera. Which to me is not an issue, as long as my straight lines are straight
