Shame these SX models have the rubber rings on the capstans that all fail. I have 2 x RQ-SX65F in the junk pile as a result.

Hi. Thanks for sharing your video. I have a Panasonic RQ-X200 walkman and I cannot figure out how to separate the PCB board so I can change the belt. Is it something you can help with?

If you didn’t fix it, you can try seeing the service manual for it. I found the one for my Panasonic and had to do a bit of desoldering to get it apart.

@Antoniu Dragus - Panasonic are known for the center plastic spring loaded cap that becomes cracked and does not stay in place. There are no replacment parts. You can either fix the same part with glue or make a new one using a 3D printer. The belts you will need to buy and thats it. Everything just needs cleaning with IPA 170 Servisol IPA 170 Isopropyl Alcohol for Electronic Cleaning www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FDUV024/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_juWeDbJD50CJR. Hope this helps. Thank you for your comments.

Will my friend I know the newer Walkman autoreverse it is not that easy to replace the belts, you did it, but it is not repaired properly, there is mechanical noise, and wow flutter, something did go wrong, you have to reopen it and fix it if possible, but unfortunately some times some mechanical parts goes bad, then can't be fixed

@zulkarnin - The video is only to show how to replace belts not do a full repair. The wow flutter will go away after you clean the pintch rollers.

@@thespecialist786 I understand now, you did remarkable job by showing how to replace the belt, like I said it is not easy on logic control autoreverse walkmans, good job.

Just recently got myself a Panasonic RQ-SX25. Works fine playing side A but when playing side B, the sound is slightly distorted with a strange "ringing/echo" effect, particularly audible in the vocal range. I tried to flip the cassette - same effect but the sides switch. So, it's clear to me that it has a problem with driving/playing in one direction and no problem on the other. As I could find out, these players have 4 track heads, two of them reading the tape in either direction. Has anyone ever encountered a similar problem? Is it possible (and how) to fix it? Thanks and best regards.

@Milos Marinkovic - Thank you for your comments. Have you tried to clean the head and also clean the pinch roller with alcohol. Its seem you may have an issue with the Head which is the main part. Unless the walkman has suffered and water damage which then changes everything. But cleaning the head with alcohol & ear buds should help.

@@thespecialist786 Thank you very much for your fast reply and advice. I just tried your suggestion and did a though inspection and cleaning of the head. Unfortunately, no luck - the problem is the same. I also tried to turn on and off all of the available combination of additional signal processing (S-XBS, TRAIN, Dolby B NR) - some of them accentuate and some mask the problem a bit but the underlying distortion is still present in that one playback direction. There is no dirt on capstans nor pinch rollers and I haven't noticed other problems. My "Test" tape is high-quality Type II ("Chrome") cassette, recorded on a decent deck. I'll try some other tapes when I get the chance, including a couple of Metal ones I have. I'm afraid that it is an electronic/processing problem. At least it plays well in one direction and it is a beautiful little machine and a brilliant piece of 90s Japanese engineering and would keep much of its charm even if not working. Thanks again and best regards.

@Milos Marinkovic - Thank you for the update. Well as parts are not available the best bet would be to buy a donor machine which will be faulty and use the main board and see if that cures the issue. Easy to swap the boards over. As this is a SX25 its not top of the range model and you can find many cheap ones listed on Ebay. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F383176156746

I would suggest replacing the pinch rollers. They get old and don’t grip the tape properly. New ones are available still. Do a Google search.

I know, Sony are the best. No de soldering. Crazy just to replace a belt. Poor design. But it was a hit at the time.
