Hey Shane, just wanted to tell you that you deserve more than 100 000 subscribers. As I was new to photography and videography last year (now I consider myself an advanced beginner) I have watched A LOT of KZitem channels on the topics. Yours is one of the best. You provide just enough technical details and illustrate them with real world examples. The photo/video shoots you present are interesting and a potential buyer can get a lot of real world information of the product you are reviewing. Please keep going and I think there will be a moment where your subscribers will increase exponentially! A subscriber from Bulgaria.

@@GeekyNerdyTechy You deserve it Shane. My opinion is based on many, many of your videos I have seen. Thank you for making them! Even though I do not need this lens it was a pleasure watching it. I do have the 20-60 kit lens and the Leica Certified 24-70 f/2.8 But if I take a bigger interest in street photography and need a bigger zoom I might get it.

Shane--great review. I loved traveling with an Olympus 14-150 m43 camera, with all its zoom aperture limitations. But now I have two S5iiX's and a Sigma 70-200 but miss the small size and light weight of a superzoom, so I have the Lumix S 28-200 S lens on order now that it is readily available in the US...and now that I've spent some quality time with the large and heavy f2.8 options!

Thanks, this lens was a lot of fun, I can highly recommend it based on the size to performance return. I totally agree about the 2.8 zooms, they are just way too big for me as well.

Great video as always. I recently picked up the S5IIX with the kit lens and wanting a zoom lens like this and a 50 Prime that will cover most of what I need for now :) This lens looks like its going to cover the zoom I want ( im sure that 70-300 is a lot more costly ). Now to decide on a Prime 50 im tossing up between the Panasonic or Sigma lens.

This zoom is so much fun mate, you'll dig it. I haven't used the sigma. but the 50mm is so good that I got a couple of them for my setup. I love the look of the 50mm it really pops! :)

Thanks Shane…great review as always! How would this pair with the S9?
@GeekyNerdyTechy

Thanks, Gordon. It'd be a great match with the S9. It's pretty small considering the reach. The Hybrid zoom on the S9 would allow you to zoom in even further when shooting video. :)

Id be tempted to trade in my 24-105 for this if it were more like $600 so that i could afford a 28-200 and a 50 1.8 combo. Still i think I'll save up a bit and get a 100-400 and make that my 2 lens combo. 24-400 just weighing quite a bit more.

This lens is a travel and street photographer's dream! And depending on the lighting it can be a suitable for event / wedding photography. Panasonic Lumix has been the best thing to happen for people like me that want Full Frame but don't want to pay 4000$+ (Or 6-7000$ with a lens) for a Sony or Canon option.

Great review, you said some points that others did not cover like vlogging. Question that everyone does not cover is this lens have heavy correction in camera or in optics? I have the impression is that this small lenses are heavily software corrected in camera.

Would you use this lens for Astrophotography? my biggest headache with cameras right now is choosing between this lens and the upcoming Samyang 35-150mm F2.8 for Lmount. I'm sorry? F4-7.1? It doesnt look that much smaller than the tamron 28-200, and that is f2.8-5.6. Wtf, Panasonic? But getting OIS is a huge benefit. And still happy to see this focal length range being popularized. I have the Tamron version for my Sony, and it is an absolute beast considering it should be much worse as it is a super-zoom
@karikaru
7 ай бұрын
Like you said, I think they made a trade of aperture for weight, OIS, focus breathing, and near focusing distance getting .5 macro at 28mm. I don't think in practice it will make a lot of difference not having 2.8 at 28mm for photos but it would definitely have been nice for video. Still I think I'll be sticking with my 24-105 as my travel lens though I'd definitely be curious to see a side by side comparison. Where I think this lens would really shine is for hiking
@GeekyNerdyTechy
7 ай бұрын
This is technically the smallest and lightest lens of it's type with a 7x optical zoom. It could be similar to other models but the OIS and Macro capability is pretty cool. :)@@karikaru

I don't get it. Everyone says nice for traveling but you travel to places that include inside shots let's say cathedrals, or under bridges pr other challenging situation. All part of a travel. Unless people say I go for a safari there will be plenty of sun no indoor use so yeah let's grab a 7.1 aperture at long edge. I really don't get it. There's is a reason why lower apertures come at a price. It's ok as long there is sufficient light you don't shot night street photography. It's also part of a trip. And a usual part of a trip. Shooting city lights.
@gordon3988

Then I suspect you need a heavier and bigger lens…or carry a small fast prime too.
