"Panchakarma treatment" is a traditional Ayurvedic Healing that involves a series of cleansing and detoxification procedures aimed at restoring the body's natural balance and boosting overall wellness.
The term "Panchakarma" translates to "five actions" in Sanskrit, referring to the five therapeutic measures used in this treatment, which typically include purification procedures such as oil massages, herbal steam therapy, cleansing enemas, nasal administration of herbal oils, and dietary modifications.
The treatment protocol consists of five distinct procedures, each carefully designed to eliminate toxins, restore vitality, and promote overall well-being. These procedures include:
01. Vamana (Emesis Therapy): This process involves the induction of controlled vomiting to expel excess mucus and toxins from the upper respiratory tract and stomach, clearing congestion and promoting respiratory health.
02. Virechana (Purgation Therapy): By administering purgative substances, Virechana stimulates the bowels, facilitating the elimination of accumulated waste and toxins from the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and gallbladder.
03. Basti (Enema Therapy): Basti involves the administration of medicated enemas to cleanse the colon and rectum, removing deep-seated toxins and balancing the Vata dosha, which governs movement and elimination in the body.
04. Nasya (Nasal Administration): Through the nasal route, medicated oils or herbal preparations are administered to cleanse the nasal passages, sinuses, and respiratory system, alleviating congestion, promoting mental clarity, and enhancing sensory perception.
05. Raktamokshana (Bloodletting Therapy): In rare cases, bloodletting may be employed to purify the blood and alleviate conditions related to excess heat or toxicity, although this procedure is less commonly practiced today.
