I hear ya. What about 3 cartoon birds fighting over a hot latina? EPCOT still has the Three Caballeros ride in Mexico. The whole premise of the ride is they are looking for Donald who is chasing mexican broads hahah. It's so much better than a Small World or any of those rides. They play this song the whole time and not many people know about it so you just walk on, 0 wait. I go everytime i'm in Orlando.

Panchito is a 'Norteno,' a Northern Mexican from Jalisco. He sings Rancheros and you see here a good representation of this culture But you also see a Mayan dance from Merida and its a lovely tribute to Latin culture. Yhis was the early 50s was travelling by cruise ship or plane was becoming fashionable and affordable. With Uncle Walt in the their corner, American travel industry was ready for a post-war boom.

It's amazing that Ward Kimball animated this entire sequence pretty much by himself. He had to come up with all the movements and the timing because there were no storyboards prepped! He was left to himself to do whatever he could to turn the song into a fun animated musical number. He said that this sequence is one of his personal favorites out of all the animation he created at Disney. (From the book, "The Life and Times of Ward Kimball: Maverick of Disney Animation")

I was watching the Ducktales reboot and their reunion brought me back in time, to when I was just out of being a baby and my cousins would watch Disney movies at my grandparents', then I had to come here and hear the original. I can't remember anymore if the song was or wasn't dubbed fully into spanish, but it's still such a happy and heartfelt song, those tones I can't forget in 3 or 3000 decades! So yeah, from here in Spain, gracias amigo.

@greengrassofhome
Жыл бұрын
@@BingusTheClown They are the opposite of harmful. The film brought Latin America to the United States and the rest of the world. It is a mixture of animated/musical entertainment and a very light documentary. Obviously, there were ways of life in these countries not displayed in the film, as well as many problems and issues not touched upon, but the movie was never meant to be a comprehensive analysis of the countries portrayed. It is a friendly, colourful introduction for children and people who knew little about these countries, and a fun, problem-free summary of these countries for the citizens of the said places, which could serve to fill them with pride. It makes people forget problems for a couple of hours and dream of visiting these places and having good times. How is saying Bahia in Brazil is a stunning locale harmful? Or saying that Las Posadas is a way for Mexican children to celebrate the story of Joseph and Mary finding shelter after much hardship (a story still very relevant for contemporary Mexico)? Or that the Americas have great ornithological biodiversity? Or saluting the various dance traditions of these countries? Or saying that gauchos are brave and that Latin American women are beautiful? And on and on. Ultimately, there is not a single scene which demeans the people, cultures and environment of these countries. On the contrary, it presents them in the best light possible. Sure, not everybody in the Americas is constantly dancing, popping piñatas or wearing sombreros, but ducks also do not talk, and yet we accept it as part of a harmless, entertaining, animated universe. The crucial thing to understand (which many people today fail to do so) is that stereotypes are not in and of themselves harmful. Stereotypes are generally simplified (partial) truths. They can be useful for quick summaries, marketing (adverts often rely on them), comedy, etc. It is negative stereotypes based on complete lies and used to demean people which are harmful. Wearing a sombrero for fun is, well, just someone wearing a hat. An outsider implying that Mexicans are lazy is denigrating and untrue. Saying 'stereotypes are wrong' or 'cultural appropriation is wrong' is an oversimplification of what is harmful. It fails to see that stereotypes are often a way to romanticise the world and celebrate it. The devil is in the detail. Very often, you are only harmful if you intend to be so. Walt Disney and his animators were being nothing of the sort in this beautiful film. Obviously, however, one has to acknowledge that to truly learn about the social and historical complexities of these countries, one has to visit them and read books. This film was never trying to substitute viewers doing that. On the contrary, I think it was encouraging it.
