After 2+years of having pain in the stomach, I'm happy to say I am pain-free after only 5 days on Creon. So many doctors 6 exactly found nothing. A friend had this med I borrowed one at lunch and on the very first dose I felt better. Thankful for finding out about this horrible disorder!

Dr. Freedman is one of the few doctors that understands. He has an in depth article on EPI written with Dr. Struyvenberg that anyone with EPI should read. Another really helpful resource on EPI is the book Primal Pancreas.

It is great to hear an expert discuss these topics! Every GI dr should watch this and refer new patients to it. Beats being told, you have EPI, probably had it for a while, take 2 creon with meal, 1 with snack. See ya in 6 months!" Daughter is in hospital every other week, pain every day, so we need a little more help than that! Thank you Mission Cure and Dr Freedman!

@@byamukamaoliver966 Good luck with that. I have seen two pancreatitis specialists. Got the same stuff you experienced with your GI specialist. I am 85 and I think they all just want me to go somewhere else to die. Mine did say there was no cure for my problem. Never used the term Chronic pancreatitis but I had already read all that on the internet. Told me to Take one of these Creon capsules with meals and do a telephone med appointment in six months. Given up on them and watch videos like this to treat myself. Still can't regain the 30 lbs I lost but at least stable at 155/160.

What about absorbing medications like paracetamol, fexofenadine, antidepressants, gabapentin etc. Do these absorbs like normal or do these not work as effectively without the enzymes?
@MissionCure

Chronic pancreatitis and EPI can affect how well other medications are absorbed by your body. We recommend talking to your doctor about the specific medications you take and whether they should be taken with enzymes during meal time.

I have severe epi and just this week showing mild atrophy in tail and tiny bit on the body of it. I'm taking 6-7 24k creon and still having decently formed but bad steatorhea. Bit better than when I was on 4 pills per meal. I cant be that I need 11-12 per meal, that can't be right? No pains, no sibo, bother gut issues noticed. 11 months and not 1 normal BM so it's very disheartening.

Personally I would see a specialist not just a doctor, that is a huge dose I take 2 before every meal, im not too bad but have severe pain with gas problems. Maybe there is something else going on besides epi, Ive heard you can also have colitis , irritable bowel syndrome and crohns with epi. I really hope things get better for you.

@@traceystone8932 Thank you. I've been tested for everything. No issues found besides mild CP and EPI. I know of people who take 200-250k per meal who are also severe epi. A healthy pacreas makes between 500k-700k pancreatic juices so taking 150k lipase isn't crazy. I know people who have severe and take 3 or 4 and they are doing well. I have no pains, no diarrhea or funny colours showing. I can eat any foods with no adverse reactions like a lot of people i speak with in a large forum. . My GI has run every test I've asked for and my nutritionist can't suggest anything as no symptoms matched to food issues. I eat a varied diet but no change. She thought low fodmap but as its only greasy then it's definately an issue with enzymes. Will experiment with ox bile or other digestive aids soon but I feel like they have run out of things to do or try. On the epi scale of issues I'm probably 2/10 and some poor folks struggle to leave the house so I shouldn't complain. I just can't seem to break down the fat 😩

I do have the same problem without any symptoms. I don't know why all Dr. talk about insulin when it comes to the pancreas or some times when those enzymes are low. I was told this issue 25 years ago and the last one around 13 years ago. I live normal and very health conscious. I read many books about health. Unfortunately, no one talks that much about it. Even those they talk about pancreatitis, not in detail as they talk about insulin. Years ago, I read somewhere that it can be genetics. My mom a very high number too, but a perfectly healthy person even in her 90s. After I read that my mind doesn't wander that much. I hope this will help. Good luck,

High enzyme levels can indicate pancreatitis. The pancreas cells release their enzymes when they are damaged and you get those high numbers.

@@butubuta what were you told 25 years ago? To take the dig enzymes, that your stool test showed definitive EPI? I had been having chronic diarrhea and nausea every day. They tested my stool which showed my own dig enzymes weren't working. Yet, I didn't lose weight, I gained weight dur8ng the past 2-3 months. All other persons seemed to have list weight due to malabsorption. Thank you for sharing you've lived with this for a while and that your mother did I to her 90's. My mom is 87 and 3 of my siblings deal with same type of digestive issues I do. Hereditary, I think.

We're sorry to hear that the prescribed pancreatic enzymes are causing you discomfort. It's important to address this with your healthcare provider to ensure you get the right treatment without adverse effects. Here are some points to consider: FDA-Approved PERT: Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT) is FDA-approved and should be prescribed by a healthcare provider, rather than over-the-counter supplements, to ensure proper dosage and effectiveness. Side Effects: PERT can have side effects, and it’s essential to monitor how your body reacts. Discuss any adverse reactions with your doctor to adjust the treatment as needed. EPI Playlist: We have a playlist with videos that provide insights into managing Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) and using PERT effectively. You can find it here: kzitem.info/door/PLJXha4Nvx8NJRu03C4kOj3CyoqjvB_Q6u&feature=shared Consult a Specialist: Working with a pancreatic specialist can help you find the right fit for your condition and manage any complications. They can provide personalized advice and adjustments to your treatment plan.
What if I have tried so many pancreatic porcine enzymes and I have side effects from them and the only options are now OTC pancreatic vegan enzymes ? Also is this normal ( I have severe EPI lab 86 and chronic pancreatitis ) that before diagnosis I did not have runny stools but just constipation won’t enzymes constipate me even more ?
@MissionCure

We encourage you to visit our PERT webpage (mission-cure.org/managing-pancreatitis/pancreatic-enzyme-replacement-therapy/ ) to learn more about enzyme therapy options. Currently, there are no FDA-approved vegan enzymes available for treating EPI. It's important to always consult with your healthcare provider or gastroenterologist to explore the most suitable and effective treatment options for your specific condition.
