The Panforte Margherita, the most traditional dessert of Siena in Tusany, Italy. Discover the secrets for making the Panforte Italian fruit cake (fruitcake).
The Panforte is a traditional Christmas dessert with an incomparable fragrance. The spices blend with whole almonds and candied fruit to create a unique (and easy!) dessert.
In the beginning and until recently, this dessert was exclusive to the rich and nobles. This is because spices and candied fruits were an expensive commodity at the time. The panforte dates back to the Late Middle Ages.
The Panforte Margherita (the fruitcake we show here) is much more recent. It dates to the late 1800's and was named in honor of Queen Margherita during her visit to the Tuscan city of Siena.
