I use an Epson V850 for my scans. I don't have a decent digital camera, almost all of my camera's are analog. With the Epson you can scan 135 film till 22 cm long. (ofcourse also medium format, 4x5 and 8x10. Even sizes in between like Fuji FP100c negatives, 9x12, 6,5x9 etc.).

Yea that part of flatbed scanning is real easy

I also do this when scanning my 4x5 negatives. I scan 4 individual corners and merge in LR (ctrl + M) on Pc. I also have a film holder that allows me to scan the full sprockets so when I shoot 35mm in my 6x9 folding camera I can also scan in parts and then merge to pano. Good video as usual

For posting on most social media, the resolution of one shot with a 24 megapixel camera is more than sufficient when DSLR / MSLR scanning. However I like stitching multiple images for medium format as well for the images I really like but I don't use Adobe software. I export the raw scans to lossless tiffs with Darktable and then I stitch them in Microsoft ICE. Then I process the stitched file in Darktable and use the negadoctor module for inversion and correction.

yea def! it's good to have options depending on the viewing medium

Another fun video!! I shoot tons of pano. If I scan with multiple shots, I bring then into my raw editor, and do my raw adjustments on all pieces FIRST, including inverting them by hand. I do one shot, then copy to other piece. I find it best to do as much RAW as I can like any shot I take. Once I’m happy, then I stitch together, and do things with a pixel editor as needed. This way I get the best I can while in a full workflow. Just my $0.02 :) CC

As far as I know, to get the 'real' top resolution of a medium format negative, you will have to combine photos, having a 1:1 macro and filling the frame in your sensor (the smaller the sensor, more photos you will need to do). I do that to store them, even tho a one shot image will be good enough for social media....

I'm going to try to scan images from the Lomo 360 spinner in a similar way with my desktop scanner. Nice!

which technique? for printing?

@@ribsy Sorry - yes for printing large prints without needing a ton of trays. There's not a lot of info out there I can find on using the drums without the machines. I've heard conflicting opinions on whether printing with the drums is more or less efficient than trays. PS - thanks for putting me onto the EFH!

Yea I don’t know which is more efficient. But I know which one requires less space haha

Ribsy when you use a DSLR for scanning your negatives, is it a cropped sensor or full sensor ?

@@ribsy I haven’t scanned with a camera yet- mine is the Canon 40d so it’s crop sensor so I’ll have to look for a Canon full frame body👍🏻

You can used crop too! Just try and find a macro lens that maximizes use of the sensor

I 3d printed an adapter for 35mm to 120, so now I can fit a regular roll in a 6x6 and take panos
