Other than ammo compatibility I don't see the use of downgrading from the KwK 42 to a PAK 40. Or did you mean a PAK 43? In which case just NO, too big, too heavy. There's a reason the huge 8.8cm gun was only mounted on either turretless TDs or monster size tanks like the King Tiger.
@yabbadabbadoo8225

@@jussimakarussi The 7.5 cm Pak 40 (7,5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 40 - "7.5cm armour defence cannon [19]40") was a German 75 millimetre anti-tank gun of the Second World War. The gun was developed in 1939-1941 and entered service in 1942. With 23,303 examples produced, the Pak 40 formed the backbone of German anti-tank guns for the later part of World War II, mostly in towed form, but also on a number of self propelled artillery such as the Marder series of Panzerjäger A modified version of the gun designed specifically for vehicle-mounting was the 7.5 cm KwK 40, which differed primarily in using more compact ammunition, thereby allowing more rounds to be carried inside the vehicles. The KwK 40 armed many of the German mid-war tank and tank destroyer designs such as the Panzer IV, replacing the Pak 40 in the latter role. The Pak 40 may be referred to as the 7.5/L46, referring to its calibre and the barrel's length in calibres. There were two versions of the KwK 40, which would be referred to as the 7.5/L43 or 7.5/L48.

The 7.5 gun is a better gun. Better pen and better accuracy. The 88 has a bigger boom sure. But the plan was to put the 7.5 in the tiger from start but the crasy dude whos name start with H thought that the 88 was cooler. And they had alot of them.
@DavidLee-xi1of
Жыл бұрын
@@niklasbengt5224 Looked them both up. Range of the 88 was 48750ft while the 7.5 was 20341ft. 88 was almost double. But you are right. The 7.5 was a great gun for close in encounters. We used it on the Sherman. But with a barrel way to short for velocity. The British 8 pounder had a longer barrel and would penetrate the front armor of a Tiger. Problem with the Tiger over engineered. To many problems with it. Not really enough Horsepower per ratio. The 7.5 on the Panzer had the extra barrel length. And it was a better tank in almost everyway. They could have built 3 to every 1 Tiger. If Hitler had paid more attention to his aircraft we might have had a different outcome. You ever get a chance, Look at the difference in a Sherman and Abrams of today. Like a VW up against a Cadillac. Brave guys then.

Upd.
