You’ve mentioned in your previous videos about not using a whole pound of meat or not using all the meat a recipe calls for. I honestly didn’t think it would work for my family because my boyfriend is a big meat eater but I noticed that I always had food by the end of the week from some of the meals I cooked. Even when we’ve eaten leftovers. Thanks to your wonderful channel, my blood BOILS when I end up throwing food away at the end of the week, especially meat! So expensive. Lol. So I finally tried your tip & it absolutely worked. I took out a pound of ground beef to cook and I decided to only use half for meat sauce and half the next day for burger bombs. It was absolutely enough for both meals! I even had enough left over each time for lunch the next day for my son and I. I always felt like I needed so much meat/food but it’s now proven Ive been cooking too large of meals for my family of 3. 😂 I can’t tell you how great your tips have been helping me get control over my family’s food budget. From recreating leftovers as another meal & now saving money on meat! You’ve been helping me since I found your channel a few months ago & STILL manage to give great tips. Thank you so much for all you do miss Mindy. My family and I are very thankful 😊

Get a freezer bag or freezer safe container and toss leftover bits into it then one day you can use to make soups or stews. My Mom would even save scraps of cooked pasta and on soup day she blended it up and used as a thickener in a veggie soup.

When i use half of a pound of ground meat i steam cook my ground meat in a third cup of water and add a grain to it like bulgur, regular oats, barley and let the grain absorb the cooking liquid when done cooking the addition of the grain in the meat stretches it to a pound worth! Thanks for the tip to pop the apple cake bars into the fridge, often times setting in the fridge does greatly improve the flavor pallet!

One way I save on meat in a recipe (those that call for ground beef) I remove about 1/4 pound and make a burger patty. ( do this of coarse before it is frozen the first time) then just go on with the recipe as normal....when I have enough burgers in the freezer to feed us we have a burger night. It is almost like a free meal. I have 2 sons and a husband who will eat a lot. Both boys and husband over 6 feet and 200 pounds and they never seem to notice that there is less meat in the spaghetti or casserole etc. I have done this for years now and the boys would have complained if noticed. (my dear husband not so much, as long as he is happy I am too)

I just checked my Walmart and they're out. My mom uses an ice cube tray for stuff like this. A typical "ice cube" is usually one ounce or 2 tablespoons. You can freeze the remaining can of tomato paste in the tray, pop out the cubes once frozen and then place the frozen cubes into a ziplock in the freezer for up to 2.3 months for future use. She also freezes her fresh herbs in olive oil this way.
