Keep up the good work, the pantry is fabulous. I've faced a lot of criticism over the years for stocking up my pantry. I mostly get that I'm buying too much by buying sale items that I consistently use and just buy it when you need it. Luckily I don't care what people say and my pantry has come to the rescue time and again. I survived hurricane Sandy, unemployment, high food prices, shortages, etc. all because of my pantry. The security of knowing we have food is a great relief in these troubled times.

You wouldn’t believe how mad he got when I said don’t come empty handed bring blankets and pillows will set you up in our shed building for night sleeping so bring blow up matress’s mom sleeping with me and my kids not giving up their bed for you. For years I begged him to grab a lot out here for bad times get a shed he poopooed me as nuts now is to late as all the cheap tax seized raw land is gone as west coast east coast people running to get away from the blue states have bought them up and doing what I begged brother to do years ago

I have been setting up preps now for about 4 years. It's not panic buying and I don't buy out everything. I purchase a little over time. I turned one of our bedrooms into a prep room with a locking system on the bedroom door. My husband and brother didn't really support this. They pretty much thought I was nuts. BUT, then we were hit with (Louisiana) a rare snow storm, polar vortex, ice storm, two back-to-back hurricanes (Laura and Delta). We were in ground zero and both hurricane eyes passed right over us. Then we got to enjoy flooding and COVID. Supplies could not get into Southwest Louisiana for quite some time. Our area was without electricity for 11.5 days. Some areas for almost two months. We are in a logging town and thousands upon thousands of trees fell EVERYWHERE. I think the trees did more damage than the incredable winds. Four huge oak trees fell on top of my brothers home. During the disasters, my hubby and I, my neighbor and brother stayed in our home. It was like one big disaster slumber party for all 11.5 days. I had a Generac, they didn't. Because I had water, internet, wireless, electric, gas and food, suddenly I was the hero!!! They don't think I'm so nuts now!!! I think we have a lot of new preppers now too. LOL!!!

I agree with you creating a pantry will take years. You also learn so much about what you do and don't use. When I shop now its not during winter so during the warmer weather when I do shop at least a third of what I buy is just to back fill my extended pantry. Unlike you I only stock to last 3 months to a year, depending on what it is. Most people here in the UK do not stock a pantry they are too used to going the supermarket at least once a week, which to me is living hand to mouth I want some security. Due to the lockdowns last year a lot of people here in the UK have reconsidered their thoughts. As my extended pantry shares the room with my sewing stuff I get to spend hours a week up there.

What outside people don't see is you guys do have 3 grands that you do give to. Our big pantry rack in our room because our room is typically the coldest room in the house. Kids came to me last week and said ma we're OUT of mayo. I laughed and said NOPE, look under the end table. Sure enough 2 big jugs of mayo and 1 Miracle Whip. If we get ice (which is normal for my area of NC) we're not going anywhere till its gone. I'm learning to not being nice. I tell my friends hurricanes or other bad storms are coming and to prepare in plenty of time. If they don't not my problem anymore. I have to worry about our 5. If my mom moves out here then I will prepare for 6.

I was just thinking this morning how handy it is when you have to bring a dish to an event but already know you have all the ingredients on hand so there won't be any last minute, rushed trip to the grocery store. I've only been at this since the beginning of last year, but I look at what I already have and think of how much money I've saved. I love that I canned so much ugly chicken at last years prices and vacuum packed and froze so much of the precooked bacon from Costco! My family looked at me sideways. Oh well! I've easily saved $100 in those 2 items alone.

@@theIAMofME The package I have in the refer was purchased last month and the use/freeze by date is next month. My experience is that it's good for months in the refrigerator. I haven't actually kept track, but I have used the Hormel brand precooked bacon after it's been in the refrigerator for 3 or 4 months without any change in appearance, texture, or taste. I do microwave it for 30 sec to 1 minute to get it crisp. Maybe one of the reasons it lasts so long is that it's sugar cured. When vacuum packing it for freezing, I transfer the meat (not the parchment paper) to a vacuum bag. I expect it to be good for years in the freezer in the vacuum bags.

I've gotten my dogs to stop being afraid of thunder, lightening and fireworks by giving them a single Cheerio every time there's a loud noise. It only takes a few times to desensitize your dogs. You have to sit right by them when doing this. Your dogs will quickly associate scary noises with treats and cuddles and will stop being afraid. We had a dog we got at an older age who was very skittish at first. She didn't like loud kitchen noises so I purposefully dropped unbreakable things like muffin tins on the floor. It only took a few times to desensitize her to these noises. Single Cheerios are a dog owner's friend!

I was so glad to come across this video. I don't have a home right now and am self-isolating at work, so there really is no place for me to store anything; however, I have the idea that I may get a storage unit (climate controlled) so that I can start stocking things up. Now, I have started prepping a little, by getting together a one-week supply of food. I started it about 3 months ago and am almost done with that. After I finish the one-week supply, I will move on to a month's supply. That is the only way I can tackle it without it over-whelming me, and again, I have to find creative ways to store just the one-week supply alone. Before I start on the one-month supply, I will have to rent the storage unit in order to have a place to put it. One of the reasons this video was helpful to me, is the fact that you are using a bedroom as your storage place. That is so very encouraging to me because it lets me know that in looking for a place to live, this is something I can keep in mind - in terms of storage. It's a very clever idea and something I would not have thought about on my own. Thank you for what you do!
@barbarafowler6581

Might want to consider that renting a store unit to store food might not be ideal situation. You have to consider the cost of the food and that it could very well be lost if for some reason you could not keep up with the storage cost and then having no where to move it to. If you are looking to food storage to save money, then you may not really be saving enough to justify paying for storage.

Treadle machine would also be great barter item if SHTF. I have portable Singer knee bar sewing machine.I got it for $35.00 @ thrift 3 years ago. I bought the manual hand crank just in case. I also have 2 treadle bases. My other Singer is hooked to electric but can be transferred to treadle. I also purchased back up hand crank that can be used with it. I love manual tools. Been picking up @ thrift stores for ages.

I love your pantry! We are also in the process of converting a bedroom into a pantry. I call it “using my house wisely”. This is a small house and storage is a problem. And what is wrong with your pantry? Is soothes my inner crazy. All the faces of the products are facing foreword, it makes sense according to need and ease of work. This is a Pinterest pantry because it is smart, useable, and organized! I will mail you a doily so you can hang it off a rack to meet the frilly demand of the “perfect pantry”. 🤣

You could put risers under the bed and store in under the bed storage boxes. That would work for medical supplies and old towels. I wish I had all my pantry in one spot but its scattered -- I have a ranch home with a full basement so its in the basement.

Thank you so much for this wonderful pantry tour! It gave me ideas of what I am missing and what I need to do. For my family living in Southern California and in earthquake county, we need to be prepared. Actually we all need to be prepared for whatever emergency comes our way. We learned the hard way on the last big earthquake in 1994. So glad you did this for us. Your Mom is right, don’t sell the sewing machine. You have been a blessing to me ❤️

Thank you for your tour! I've been ordering from you as my Thrive Consultant for a couple months now. I love it sooo much. As a matter of fact I signed up as a "personal use" consultant today. :) Can't wait to see your video tomorrow!
