My neighbors favorite load pushes a custom 210 grain bullet at 2150. He has won a lot of matches with the old girl. He does taper crimp the bullets, insists on 100% Rag paper 16 pound, and lubes the outside of the paper with Rooster Red. I think the Rooster Red is more for weather proofing them because it rains here a lot and he does hunt with it.

Nice work, haven't seen anyone try this. I have two and they shoot nice with a .311 185gr cast bullet powder coated, gas check design but I don't use a gas check. 1.5 inch groups at 50 yards no problem and as low as 1 inch. 19gr 2400. I have also tried 200gr but they like the 185's better. GP11 brass w/ Tula berdan primers. I tried .312 and they shot worse so I stuck with .311. As a bonus you don't need to trim your brass shorter, the throats are so generous it's not needed when using a smaller bullet without the patch.

The paper patching is an unnecessary step on those. Just powder coat a 200 grain cast bullet and size it to .314 with a gas check. I use 36 grains of IMR 4350. The later versions of that round, the GP90/23 did not have a paper patch but used a 180 grain cupronickel head. That being said, it was great you did that patching so well. Great job.

I agree, mine shoots great w/ a .311 powder coated bullet but I run mine lighter w/ 19gr 2400. No gas check.

Thanks for the video. There’s not much out there on paper patching. I hope to get into it.

One possible factor is the heavy trigger. Its gotta be well over 5bs pull & theres a hard pull there that will tak the gun down amd to the left. Cool rifle, i have the 1889 sporty in 30 30

It’s great to see some of these old rifles being shot . Hey Eagle Kyle from The Social Regressive issued you , Kotaboy 32 , Mark & Sam a challenge to shoot 6 eggs at 300 Yards , only one shot on each egg in his most recent video until loaded today . I have emailed X-Ring and Isyour6covered to let em know about it . Video it and send it to the Kyle at The Social Regressive.

Use your taper crimp to flatten out the flare at the case mouth with the bullet in place. That will get you more consistent burn rates. Don't crimp it, just straighten it up.

I heard you could load 30-40 Krag specs for loads for the Swiss. I bought some K31 ammo and took it apart, removing some powder, to more like 30-40 Krag Specs. shooting for around 2,000 fps.

The pressures have to be lower for that receiver. The trailboss puts it around 1900 FPS with a 200gr. A 180 is right at 2100. Got some heeled cast PP mold to try out

Careful doing that, some powder is dangerous when loaded below minimum load specs for that cartridge case. It is super rare, but it can supposedly cause a kaboom.
