I use the mesh filter. I program the coffee maker the night before to brew 30 minutes before I arise in the morning. That gives the sediment plenty of time to sink to the bottom of the pot. Then I slowly pour the coffee into my cup. Little to no sediment in my cup.

Love your reviews: coffee is a spice so you want the oils to come through. Paper blocks the oils but reusable allow the oils to pass throuh--thats my understanding. It's the "shimmer" you are seeing with the reusable.

Cleaning the metal filter seems to be a bit of a chore and might add to the sludge in a septic tank over time when using a sink.

Aeropress can do metal permanent and paper filter. I love double filtering because I never get sediment and I can still get oils out of it. Paper filters typically catch both the oils and sediment, which leads to a smoother tasting cup. Paper filters offer a more unform extraction in machines. Metal filters allow microfine sediment and all of the natural oils out, with these cups of coffee you can expect more of a flavor profile and brew times might be a bit shorter. It is best to level and pre-steep by adding water and leveling them " even in machines for all types of brewers, but some people might not want to do it." Coffee bits won't hurt you or cause intestinal distress in the provided examples, don't drink a coffee ground smoothy. If you want a smoother and cleaner cup of coffee out of a brewer with a metal filter you can pour it into a cheap pour over and you can rinse those paper filters a few times each before they stop holding together since you aren't brewing in them. If you want the best single cup of coffee without a huge machine. Aeropress is king. If you want larger batches of 3 to 4 cups, a Hario V60 style brewer will do the coffee faster and provide a much better output product than any of the machines here, though it isn't automatic. Zen out or just keep using the machines, whichever makes you happy. Good video

Thanks for making this video with great explanation … helped a lot as I purchased philips coffee which claims has built in filter but after making coffee there are so much sediments at bottom, I was little confused about that

I believe the filter your talking about is intended to filter the clean water from chlorine before the water is used to make coffee.

A little bit of sediment and oils in my coffee makes it tastier IMO. It adds body, texture, some acidity, a pinch of bitterness if you could detect it at all. Just make sure there is not too much sediment remains in your cup. Fully filtered out residues and oils from coffee makes it somewhat diluted and "bodyless" to me. So I'd vote for metal mesh filters.

It's probably easier to remove and dispose of paper filter with spent coffee grounds, than to dump and rinse out reusable metal filter. But you have to keep a supply of paper filters. Keep a reusable on hand for when you run out of paper filters. Coffee is not great for health, I wonder of small amount of sediment with reusable mesh filter is concerning (?)

@@JustADad I want to try out real coffee. Until now i just had the watersoluble instant stuff because i drink very little. But since they mix cellulose into it, it tastes like garbage. Thats why i want a simple pour over filter and not a whole coffeemachine. I usually like it strong tasteing but sweetened.

Another good video from you. I didn't know that you weren't supposed to use a filter inside a reusable. I tend to do that all the time. Does it just dull the coffee? BTW, I have a Polish friend who makes her coffee by pouring the water straight into a cup of grounds, letting the grounds settle and, boom, she drinks the coffee. It tastes great if you like black coffee.

Yes the reusable filter removes the sediment which lots of people say adds flavor to the coffee. I have heard of others doing the same thing with coffee grounds I need to try this out.

I recently switched to paper basket filters. I felt like the flavored coffee taste too strong for my taste…don’t know how to explain it but I like the taste ever since I’ve done the change. Also clean up is better for me since I can just toss it and not leave the mess till I get back home from work…I’m always running late 😅 I know reusable is environment friendly but I just had to make a change

Sediment isn't bad for you. You can eat the whole bean. The reusable filter is probably better because the paper filters out more of the oils.

I thought you had to use both the paper basket filter and the basket filter. Reason? When I just use the basket filter, the coffee goes all over the place because the grinds clog up the carafe lid top; the grinds are not so small as to not clog up the carafe top cover. Therefore, what's the point of the coffee maker coming with the metal basket filter when, if you only use it, coffee goes everywhere and makes a mess? I guess there is only one thing to do, and that is to only use the Paper filter. Else, what am I doing wrong with using the metal filter by itself; I'd love to only use it.

I believe your problem is coffee that is too fine in the grind.(any store bought ground coffee)- It Should be a medium to medium course grind for reusable "gold tone" metal filters.
