Is this an annual show? When is the next performance. How much are the tickets in rublos? I'm telling my friends about this yiddish festival? Is Efim Aleksandrov the main singer of Yiddish in Russia today?

this isn't really true, though -- it was a popular song, written by Yablokoff for the radio in 1932 -- and the theme -- a child dying of cold and hunger in the snow as he tries to sell cigarettes -- is at least a bit unusual for a folk song. aren't there similar versions by the andrew sisters?

Dear Biseps, I didnot read your comment before posting mine, but we have the same opinion about it. I dont like the "hollywood sauce" in wich it is dipped either. I think it takes away the real meaning of this beautiful song.

I dont want to detract from the performance, but suggest that the soul of the song is lost in the presentation. Take a llok at Zully Goldfarb performing it without the lights, snowflakes, large orchestra and all the "hollywood"trappings. I would be interested in other's thoughts.

I am sorry, but I don't think this is a verry good version. The song has lost it's meaning in my opinion. It should be played in the klezmer way, without this bombastic orchestra. I like it more sober and simpel, but again, that is to my taste. Listen to Zully Goldfarb or Alexander Rodin and you will notice the difference.
