Susumu Hirosawa and Satoshi Kon truly combine to form the trippiest fucking atmosphere known to man. There will never be another artist combination like these. I'm glad I was born when I was.

There's one combo that I think can rival it. Susumu Hirosawa and Kentario Miura. He did the ost for Berserk. I wonder how Hirosawa feels about defining the sound of not only the greatest anime director's work, but the greatest mangaka's as well. Rest in piece to both masters in their field. Lets hope we don't loose Susumu soon.

Not just Satoshi Kons animation but the directing is really amazing no wonder American directors have pulled stuff directly from these films and integrated them into their own films.

I like how the song and the singer matches how random and imaginative Paprika is.

At first glance I thought this movie was just boring, but when I really watched it, my jaw dropped. To create something so incredible, especially because of the perfect soundtrack, is mind boggling. Honestly one of the most magical things I have ever experienced, just the atmosphere and trippy, originality. LOVE THIS MOVIE!

Susumu's original music videos are never terribly good, sadly. His music and this song especially is something else altogether. His skills are godlike and I could listen to this song forever.
Excellent movie. May Satoshi Kon rest in peace knowing that he left such treasures to the anime community of today and those who come tomorrow.

it must take honest dedication and pure undiluted focus to produce something of such high unimitable caliber as this masterpiece of an opening. I am left mesmerized by the mere arrangement of vocals in a manner that is upbeat yet sophisticated, not to mention the animation which is truly captivating and in total harmony with the music.

You know, it's crazy. I didn't really react all that much to the news that Satoshi Kon had died. I mean, it WAS really sad, but I couldn't really get worked up over the death of a person that I'd never met. Then just now I listened to this song while reading over his (heartbreaking) last message, and it hit me that we'll never see anything like this again. Ever. And I couldn't stop crying for a good half hour after. His death has got to be one of the great tragedies in anime history.
I have this film in my collection, along with Millennium Actress. I want to add Tokyo Godfathers, and then go on that ultimate of quests, finding an American copy of Perfect Blue, which I have never seen at all. The late Satoshi Kon followed closely in the footsteps of such filmmakers as Hayao Miyazaki, Katsuhiro Otomo, and, I'd dare say, Akira Kurosawa.

@PeppermintCereal Right after I posted that I was poking around and saw people mentioning MEIKO. My friend who made a VSQ for this said that LOLA could be made to sound like that with a different vocal configuration, and I can definitely say that with the proper editing she doesn't always sound manly. I checked Vocaloid Wiki and that says LOLA, but it seems that it's debated a lot so I don't know for sure ^^;

A great song, best in the film. And I really liked Satoshi's films. He was one of the few that still did serious film like anime. The type of stuff that japan used to do during the economic boom, except he did regardless of climate. I'm not saying that whatever anime people consider adult isn't, but his professionalism, really set the standard and only studio ghibli has really kept doing serious anime films(aside from satoshi)
