Shrink tubing for marine applications has an adhesive on the inside of the tubing that might add some extra strength to the splice.

finally!! something bloody simplistic and fast. No fancy knots like the cobra, snake etc. etc. don't have the patience. As long as it works I don't give a shit what it looks like. It serves the purpose. Thx for a great video! :)

Two quick tips: 1) hold the two ends with needle nose pliers 2) use a candle or oil lighter to light both ends on fire I have found that I get the best melting if one or both ends are actually burning when I stick them together. That being said, I don't like paracord for backpack toggles - it's too strong.

That is a really good idea. I have never seen this done before. I just bought a Drago Tracker backpack for edc and I think I am going to give this a try. Thanks for the idea...Jason

Thanks. I may have an old video on the Drago Tracker. 2 parts, may be a year or 2 old but good choice man. Great bag.

A little late to the party but, there's one suggestion I'd make.. At about 4:24 in the video, you're showing the two ends before you light them up and push them together. When I do this procedure, I pull back 1/2"-3/4" of the inner strands and heat that up first, then make the point like you did. On the other end, I feed that through the zipper, then push the pointed end into the other end which should have a bit of space in there.. Heat that together, then slide your tubing over it (Umm, shoulda done this before heating them up..) and heat it up like you're doing. Basically, that gives you a double layer of melted goodness and will hold even better.

Interesting little setup, I've used whistle tips and glow in the dark ones, just not a fan of the knots, but this setup is interesting I just might have to try it. Only concern is like someone said total snag bait!

I really like it. I'm not sure which company uses them, I think it might be Maxpadition that has zipper pulls that are similar to how you make yours. There's seemed to have more of a flat piece of hard rubber for your finger.

Paul Hughes - These are both Maxpedition packs, and they do come with lanyard style zipper pulls with rubber hardware. I've just upgraded these to loops with milspec paracord.

It might be possible to glue these ends together too. Any suggestions on which glue would be best? Important to note too that smoke/vapor from burning/melting plastic is highly toxic. Love the concept, great vid, thanks!
